IE-3400H-16T-A Description
The IE-3400H-16T-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty Series industrial switch for machines, walls and vehicle bodies that have no enclosure. The switch has 16 Gigabit ports on M12 X-coded connectors, a single 9.6V to 60V DC input, IP66/IP67 protection and an operating range of -40°C to +75°C with airflow. The switch has no expansion slots, and its Network Advantage license is perpetual.

Key Features
The M12 X-coded 8-pin connectors screw down on every port, which keeps Gigabit links stable on vehicles and heavy plant where RJ45 contacts work loose.
Network Advantage adds OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite and TrustSec SGT/SGACL, with MACsec-256 protecting exposed uplinks, so a 16-device zone can be segmented at its own mounting point.
PRP on ports Gig1/1-1/4, HSR-SAN, HSR-PRP Dual Redbox, DLR, REP and PROFINET-MRP come from the Essentials baseline and need no extra license.
UN ECE R10, E-Mark and the EN50155:2021 railway group with EN45545-2 fire safety apply to this Gigabit model and clear it for train and tram installation.
IEC 60068-2-52 salt mist and IEC 60068-2-60 mixed-gas testing combine with a 13,800 ft altitude ceiling for coastal, chemical and high-altitude sites.
Sixteen ports in one IP66/IP67 Type 4X housing replace two 8-port switches where device clusters pass the eight-drop mark.
Application Scenarios
Packaging lines and process skids with more than eight sensors, drives, HMIs and cameras can aggregate them on one switch mounted at the center of the cluster.
A train carriage can mount the switch to serve CCTV, passenger information and door controllers, using the EN50155 railway certification group that applies to the Gigabit models.
Cranes, conveyor gantries and intermodal yard equipment in salt air and spray can backhaul PLCs and cameras through the switch without a climate-controlled housing.

IE-3400H-16T-A and IE-3400H-16T-E are the same 16-port Gigabit hardware separated by license: IE-3400H-16T-A ships with Network Advantage, which adds dynamic routing, VRF-lite, TrustSec SGT/SGACL and MACsec-256. A site that needs none of these on day one can order IE-3400H-16T-E and raise the license later with the perpetual IE3400H-NW-A=. More than 16 devices at one mounting point calls for IE-3400H-24T-A, which has 24 ports and the same Advantage license, at 49.0W against 41.6W and 13.90 lb against 11.25 lb with brackets.
Ordering Checklist
- Power input: Provide a 9.6-60VDC source rated for 4.4A at 9.6V and a Molex Mini-Change cordset such as 130006-0737, or use PWR-IE160W-67-DC= from an 18-60V source. The single Mini-Change input rejects cordsets or supplies with another connector.
- Data cordsets: Order M12 X-coded 8-pin cordsets for the populated ports. The Gigabit ports take only X-coded 8-pin M12 connectors, so other codings do not fit.
- Console cable: Order CAB-CONSOLE-M12=, a 6 ft M12-to-DB9F cable. The console port is M12 A-coded 5-pin, so a standard console cable does not connect.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB if removable storage is wanted. The card is an optional part and the switch has no USB port, so no other removable storage is available.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3400H-DNA-A with a -3Y, -5Y or -7Y term if Catalyst Center management is planned. The Advantage license is ordered separately and requires a Network Advantage switch, which this -A model is.
