IEM-3400-8P Description
The IEM-3400-8P is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series expansion module that adds powered copper ports to an IE-3400-8P2S industrial switch. The module has eight Gigabit Ethernet PoE/PoE+ ports, draws 20W at 54V excluding PoE output, takes the system to 18 ports and raises the base switch PoE budget from 240W to 480W. PoE modules attach only to a PoE base switch, and expansion modules are not hot-swappable.

IEM-3400-8P is the PoE/PoE+ copper module of the IEM-3400 group: it adds eight Gigabit copper ports with PoE/PoE+ and fits only the IE-3400-8P2S bases, while IEM-3400-8T carries eight copper ports without PoE and also fits IE-3400-8T2S. Where the added ports must be fiber, IEM-3400-8S provides eight Gigabit SFP ports with no PoE. IEM-3300-8P is the other eight-port PoE module in the table and also fits IE-3300-8P2S and IE-3300-8U2X, but its advanced hardware features are listed as No against Yes for IEM-3400-8P, and Cisco notes that an IEM-3300 module on an IE3400 base makes SGT/SGACL unavailable. None of the four modules supports 90-W PoE, and each gives 18 ports in total.
