IEM-3400-8S Description
The IEM-3400-8S is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series expansion module that adds fiber ports to an IE-3400-8T2S or IE-3400-8P2S industrial switch. The module has eight Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports with no PoE, draws 27W and takes the system to 18 ports. Expansion modules are not hot-swappable, so the module goes on with the base switch powered down.

IEM-3400-8S is the Gigabit SFP module of the IEM-3400 group: it adds eight SFP ports, while IEM-3400-8T adds eight copper ports to the same IE-3400-8T2S and IE-3400-8P2S bases at 12W against 27W. Powered copper endpoints on the added ports need IEM-3400-8P, which supports PoE/PoE+ but fits only IE-3400-8P2S. IEM-3300-8S has the same eight SFP ports at 19W and fits IE-3300-8T2S, IE-3300-8P2S, IE-3300-8U2X and IE-3400-8T2S, but its advanced hardware features are listed as No against Yes for IEM-3400-8S, and Cisco notes that an IEM-3300 module on an IE3400 base makes SGT/SGACL unavailable. All four modules give 18 ports in total and none supports 90-W PoE.
