IE-3400-8P2S-E Description
The IE-3400-8P2S-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series advanced modular industrial switch for DIN-rail cabinets that power cameras, wireless links and sensors. The switch has eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, two 100/1000 SFP uplinks and a 240W PoE budget that reaches 480W with a PoE expansion module, on dual DC inputs of 9.6 to 60VDC with Network Essentials licensing. The Network Essentials tier includes PRP, HSR and DLR redundancy and MACsec-128, while dynamic routing and SGT/SGACL need the Network Advantage upgrade.

Key Features
The base switch has 240W for PoE, and a PoE expansion module raises the system budget to 480W across up to 24 PoE/PoE+ ports. The IEM-3300-4MU= module adds four 802.3bt Type 4 ports.
Dual redundant DC inputs accept 9.6 to 60VDC, but PoE needs 48VDC and PoE+ needs 54VDC at the input.
PRP on ports Gig1/1 to Gig1/4, HSR-SAN, HSR-PRP Dual Redbox, DLR, REP and MRP are all part of Network Essentials, so seamless-failover designs need no license upgrade.
Network Essentials covers Layer 2 switching, inter-VLAN routing, static routes and MACsec-128. Dynamic routing, SGT/SGACL, VRF-lite and MACsec-256 arrive with the perpetual IE3400-NW-A= upgrade.
IEEE 1588 PTPv2 runs in Default and Power Profile. 1:1 Layer 2 NAT is supported on the uplink ports, which lets machines with duplicate addressing join at the cabinet boundary.
The switch is fanless and rated -40°C to +70°C in a vented enclosure, with IEC 61850-3, IEEE 1613 and Class I Div 2 approvals for substations and process areas.
Application Scenarios
In a REP or MRP ring cabinet, the switch powers PoE+ cameras and wireless access points while it passes ring traffic along its SFP uplinks.
Inside a PROFINET production line, the switch powers vision systems and operator panels at the cell while the controllers stay in Layer 2 domains.
At a water or energy site that runs PRP or HSR, the switch gives local instruments PoE power and keeps frames flowing when one path fails.

IE-3400-8P2S-E powers eight copper ports with PoE/PoE+ from a 240W base budget, or 480W with an IEM-3400-8P= module, while IE-3400-8T2S-E has the same Network Essentials license and SFP uplinks with no PoE and a 36W draw against 47W, which suits cabinets whose endpoints power themselves. IE-3400-8P2S-A shares the ports, budget and 47W draw but adds SGT/SGACL, TrustSec, VRF-lite, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, PIM and MACsec-256 in place of Essentials static and inter-VLAN routing and MACsec-128. Sites that need those features at commissioning should order IE-3400-8P2S-A; an installed Essentials unit can instead take the perpetual IE3400-NW-A= upgrade, and an IEM-3300 module would block SGT/SGACL, so TrustSec sites should choose IEM-3400 modules.

Ordering Checklist
- DC power supply: Feed 48VDC for PoE or 54VDC for PoE+ to the DC inputs, or add an IE DIN rail supply such as PWR-IE240W-PCAC-L= or PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= sized to the datasheet minimum power table for the 240W or 480W budget. -L supplies are IP20 rated without hazardous-location certification.
- License upgrade: Order IE3400-NW-A= (perpetual Network Advantage) when an installed Essentials unit needs the Advantage feature set. It converts the installed switch in place, so no new -A switch is ordered.
- Expansion module: Order IEM-3400-8P= for PoE expansion to the 480W system budget. IEM-3400 modules keep SGT/SGACL available after an upgrade, while IEM-3300 modules make it unavailable.
- SFP temperature grade: Use industrial optics such as GLC-SX-MM-RGD= or GLC-LX-SM-RGD= in cabinets that reach the temperature limits. Commercial or extended-temperature SFPs require the switch operating temperature to be derated.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB= when SwapDrive configuration backup and replacement is planned. The card is optional and not shipped with the switch.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3400-DNA-E or a 3, 5 or 7-year term such as IE3400-DNA-E-3Y when Catalyst Center manages the switch. The licenses are optional and sold separately.
- 19-inch rack kit: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL= when the switch goes into a 19-inch rack. The switch itself mounts only on DIN rail.
