IE-3400-8P2S-A Description
The IE-3400-8P2S-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series advanced modular industrial switch for DIN-rail cabinets that power cameras, wireless links and sensors. The switch has eight Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper ports, two 100/1000 SFP uplinks and a 240W PoE budget that reaches 480W with a PoE expansion module, on dual DC inputs of 9.6 to 60VDC with Network Advantage licensing. SGT/SGACL stays available only with IEM-3400 modules, because any IEM-3300 expansion module disables it.

Key Features
The base switch has 240W for PoE, and a PoE expansion module raises the system budget to 480W across up to 24 PoE/PoE+ ports. The IEM-3300-4MU= module adds four 802.3bt Type 4 ports.
Dual redundant DC inputs accept 9.6 to 60VDC, but PoE needs 48VDC and PoE+ needs 54VDC at the input.
SGT/SGACL and Cisco TrustSec tag devices by role, and VRF-Aware SGT carries the tags into separate routing tables. The base switch and IEM-3400 modules support it; an IEM-3300 module disables it.
PRP on ports Gig1/1 to Gig1/4 as a single instance, HSR-SAN, HSR-PRP Dual Redbox and DLR join REP and MRP rings, which gives zero-recovery-time paths for process and utility networks.
OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS, VRRP, HSRP and PIM multicast routing run on the Network Advantage tier, with 3000 IPv4 and 512 IPv6 indirect routes. MACsec-256 encrypts links that leave the cabinet.
IEEE 1588 PTPv2 runs in Default and Power Profile, and the switch carries IEC 61850-3, IEEE 1613 and Class I Div 2 approvals. It is fanless and rated -40°C to +70°C in a vented enclosure.
Application Scenarios
In a roadside or tunnel cabinet, the switch powers IP cameras and wireless links from its PoE/PoE+ ports and carries their traffic upstream over the SFP uplinks.
At an electrical substation, the switch feeds PoE devices while meeting IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 requirements, and it distributes IEEE 1588 PTPv2 Power Profile timing.
On a factory floor, the switch places each cell’s controllers and cameras in separate security groups, so TrustSec policy limits traffic between cells without re-cabling.

IE-3400-8P2S-A supplies PoE/PoE+ on its eight copper ports from a 240W base budget, or 480W with an IEM-3400-8P= module, while IE-3400-8T2S-A has the same two SFP uplinks and Network Advantage but no PoE and draws 36W against 47W of switch-only consumption, so it suits cabinets whose endpoints power themselves. Where the cabinet needs powered ports with Layer 2 and static routing only, IE-3400-8P2S-E has the same ports and budget on Network Essentials with MACsec-128, and IE3400-NW-A= upgrades it in place later. This -A model is the one to keep for TrustSec SGT/SGACL, VRF-lite, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, PIM multicast or MACsec-256 on day one; an IEM-3300 module removes SGT/SGACL, so those sites should stay with IEM-3400 modules.

Ordering Checklist
- DC power supply: Feed 48VDC for PoE or 54VDC for PoE+ to the DC inputs, or add an IE DIN rail supply such as PWR-IE240W-PCAC-L= or PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= sized to the datasheet minimum power table for the 240W or 480W budget. -L supplies are IP20 rated without hazardous-location certification.
- Expansion module: Order IEM-3400-8P= for PoE expansion to the 480W system budget. IEM-3400 modules keep SGT/SGACL, while IEM-3300 modules make it unavailable, so the module line decides whether segmentation still works.
- SFP temperature grade: Use industrial optics such as GLC-SX-MM-RGD= or GLC-LX-SM-RGD= in cabinets that reach the temperature limits. Commercial or extended-temperature SFPs require the switch operating temperature to be derated.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB= when SwapDrive configuration backup and replacement is planned. The card is optional and not shipped with the switch.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3400-DNA-A or a 3, 5 or 7-year term such as IE3400-DNA-A-3Y when Catalyst Center manages the switch. The licenses are optional and sold separately.
- 19-inch rack kit: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL= when the switch goes into a 19-inch rack. The switch itself mounts only on DIN rail.
