IE-3100-8T2C-E Description
IE-3100-8T2C-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3100 Rugged Series industrial Ethernet switch for non-PoE access in industrial cabinets and edge networks. It combines eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 access ports with two 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-X dual-media combo uplinks, runs with the Network Essentials license, and uses dual DC power inputs for DIN-rail installations where copper endpoint connections and flexible copper-or-fiber uplink handoff are required without switch-supplied PoE. Cisco lists 17.7 W power consumption, 14.88 Mpps forwarding rate, IP30 protection, and extended environmental operation for this rugged IE3100 model.

Key Features
IE-3100-8T2C-E fits bills of material that need eight Gigabit copper endpoints without allocating switch PoE budget or PoE-capable downlinks.
The two uplinks can be planned as 1000BASE-T copper or 1000BASE-X SFP fiber, so sourcing should separate RJ45 handoff needs from rugged SFP optics.
Cisco assigns this exact PID to Network Essentials, which keeps the E suffix tied to the intended IE3100 license tier during substitutions.
The non-PoE 8T2C model uses a 12V to 48V nominal DC input range and a 17.7 W power-consumption value, avoiding the larger PoE power budget used by 8P2C.
Cisco marks the 8T2C base model without the IE3105 FPGA data path, so Layer 2 NAT expectations should stay tied to IE3105 variants instead.
Cisco documents DIN-rail mounting, dual DC connectors, alarm I/O, SD card support, and wide environmental ranges for IE3100 Rugged Series installations.
Application Scenarios
IE-3100-8T2C-E suits small control cabinets where PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, controllers, or other Ethernet endpoints need Gigabit RJ45 access but not switch-supplied power.
Installed where the access layer may terminate either copper uplinks or 1GE fiber uplinks, because both uplink positions are documented as dual-media combo ports.
This model fits a standard Network Essentials IE3100 order; move to IE-3100-8P2C-E for powered downlinks or IE-3105-8T2C-E when the project specifically requires the IE3105 feature boundary.

- In an IE-3100-8T2C-E vs IE-3100-8P2C-E comparison, the port count and combo uplinks match, but IE-3100-8P2C-E adds eight PoE/PoE+ ports and a 240 W PoE budget.
- The IE-3100-8T2C-E vs IE-3100-8T4S-E difference is uplink design: IE-3100-8T2C-E has two dual-media combo uplinks, while IE-3100-8T4S-E has four 100/1000 SFP-only uplinks.
- For IE-3100-8T2C-E vs IE-3105-8T2C-E comparison work, the key model split is the IE3105 FPGA data path and Layer 2 NAT scope listed for the IE3105 variant.
- Buyers deciding which model to choose should lock PoE need, uplink count and media, and IE3105 feature requirements before treating these IE3100 8-port PIDs as interchangeable.
Selection Guide
1. Choose the data-only 8T2C profile
Choose IE-3100-8T2C-E when the cabinet needs eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 endpoints, two 1GE combo uplinks, Network Essentials, and no PoE power budget.
2. Move to 8P2C for powered endpoints
Use IE-3100-8P2C-E instead when cameras, access points, phones, or sensors must draw PoE/PoE+ power from the switch.
3. Select 8T4S for more SFP uplinks
Move to IE-3100-8T4S-E when the same eight copper access ports need four 100/1000 SFP fiber uplinks rather than two dual-media combo uplinks.
4. Keep IE3105 feature requests separate
Verify whether the design requires the IE3105 FPGA data path or Layer 2 NAT support, because those requirements point to IE-3105-8T2C-E rather than IE-3100-8T2C-E.
