IE-3100-8T2C-E Description
The IE-3100-8T2C-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3100 Rugged Series industrial switch for DIN-rail control cabinets that need Gigabit copper access without PoE. The switch has eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports and two dual-media combo uplinks, runs on dual DC inputs from 12V to 48V nominal and draws 17.7 W. The switch has no PoE budget and no FPGA data path, so Layer 2 NAT is not available on it.

Key Features
All eight RJ45 ports carry data only. Endpoints that need switch-supplied power belong on a PoE model of the IE3100 family.
Each of the two uplinks runs as 1000BASE-T copper or as an SFP, 100M or 1G. When both sides of a port are connected, the SFP is used by default unless the media type is set manually.
Two screw-terminal DC inputs work as primary and backup, and the higher-voltage feed carries the load. A second independent source keeps the switch running if one feed fails.
The switch consumes 17.7 W, a figure that goes straight into the cabinet power worksheet for a 12V to 48V supply.
The data path is standard, so Layer 2 NAT is not supported. Duplicate-address machine networks need an IE3105 model.
Two alarm inputs and one Form-C alarm output report cabinet faults. An optional SD card behind the front cover restores the configuration on a replacement switch.
Application Scenarios
In a control cabinet on a production line, the switch connects PLCs, HMIs and drives over its eight Gigabit copper ports, with power fed from a DC supply already in the cabinet.
A utility or pump-station cabinet can hand traffic back to the control center over either RJ45 or SFP fiber, because both uplinks are dual-media combo ports.
At 17.7 W, the switch suits a shared 12V to 48V cabinet supply where several loads draw from the same industrial power source.

IE-3100-8T2C-E is the non-PoE model with two 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-X dual-media combo uplinks, while IE-3100-8T4S-E replaces them with four 100/1000 SFP-only uplinks for 12 ports in total, so fiber-only designs that need more than two uplinks should order IE-3100-8T4S-E. Cabinets that must power cameras, access points or phones from the switch need IE-3100-8P2C-E, which keeps the eight copper ports and two combo uplinks and adds a 240 W PoE budget. Layer 2 NAT is available only on the IE3105 variant, so a design that depends on it should order IE-3105-8T2C-E, which also has the FPGA data path and draws 28 W against 17.7 W for IE-3100-8T2C-E.
Ordering Checklist
- Power supply: Order a separate DIN-rail supply such as PWR-IE50W-AC= (50W, AC 100-240V) or PWR-IE50W-AC-L=. The ordering table lists no default power supply, so the switch arrives with nothing to power it.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-1GB= or SD-IE-16GB= if configuration backup is wanted. The card is optional and not shipped by default, so a replacement switch cannot reload its configuration from it unless ordered.
- DIN-rail mounting: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL= if the switch goes into a 19-inch rack instead of a DIN rail. The rack kit is a separate item, and the data sheet does not say whether DIN-rail or rack hardware ships with the switch.
- Uplink optics: Choose Cisco-listed 100M or 1G SFPs for the two dual-media uplinks, using -40 to +85°C industrial-grade SFPs for utility, rail or marine sites. Each uplink uses either the SFP or the RJ45 side.
- Subscription: Optionally add Catalyst Center Essentials subscription IE3100-DNA-E-L (up to 12 ports) with a -1Y, -3Y, -5Y, -7Y or -10Y term. IE-3100-8T2C-E is covered by the Network Essentials license with no separate license PID, so this is the only license line that can be added.
