C9300-24T-A Description
The C9300-24T-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9300 modular-uplink access switch built for 24-port 1G copper data connectivity without PoE, ordered with the Network Advantage perpetual license and a matching Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA Advantage software subscription. The switch ships with an empty uplink network module bay, so the uplink medium and speed are chosen separately from modules such as the C9300-NM-8X (8x 10G/1G SFP+) or C9300-NM-2Q (2x 40G QSFP+), letting the same 24-port chassis serve as either a fiber-aggregated wiring-closet switch or a higher-density stack member. Switching capacity is 208 Gbps with a 154.76 Mpps forwarding rate, and up to 8 units can join a single StackWise-480 stack for 688 Gbps of combined bandwidth, with Cisco StackPower available for shared power redundancy across the stack. Because this is a data-only chassis with a default 350W AC power supply, it fits copper access roles where endpoints do not draw PoE, while the Network Advantage license unlocks routing scale, network segmentation (VXLAN, TrustSec, MPLS), and automation features that the same hardware running Network Essentials on the C9300-24T-E does not include.

Key Features
The empty modular uplink bay lets the same C9300-24T-A chassis take a C9300-NM-8X for 8x 10G/1G SFP+ fiber uplinks, a C9300-NM-2Q for 2x 40G, or a lower-cost C9300-NM-4G for 4x 1G, so the uplink budget is set at BOM time rather than fixed at the factory.
Up to 8 C9300-24T-A units can join a single StackWise-480 stack for 688 Gbps of combined switching capacity, letting a wiring closet grow port count without adding separate management points.
StackPower lets stack members share power across the ring, so a closet that loses one supply on one member can draw backup power from a neighboring unit instead of requiring a dedicated second supply in every chassis.
The Network Advantage license adds VRF, VXLAN, LISP, and Cisco TrustSec segmentation plus NETCONF/RESTCONF/YANG automation and MACsec-256, capabilities the same hardware does not carry under the Network Essentials tier used on C9300-24T-E.
The default 350W AC supply is sized for a non-PoE copper access role; no PoE budget is available at this port count, which keeps the power footprint smaller than the PoE+ variants in the same chassis family.
C9300-24T-A requires Cisco IOS XE Release 16.5.1a or later; a site running an older Catalyst 9300 image across its existing fleet needs to confirm that floor and plan the upgrade window before this switch is staged, rather than assuming the currently deployed image already supports it.
Application Scenarios
Deployed as the access-layer switch in a floor wiring closet for desktop and workstation connections that do not require PoE, such as office copper drops or lab benches.
Fitted with a C9300-NM-8X or C9300-NM-2Y network module to hand off 10G or 25G fiber uplinks from a wiring closet back to a distribution or core switch.
Used where the access layer itself must participate in network segmentation, since Network Advantage brings VXLAN, LISP, and Cisco TrustSec down to the access switch rather than only the distribution layer.

- C9300-24T-A and C9300-24T-E run on identical hardware with the same 208 Gbps switching capacity and 350W AC data-only power profile; the license tier is the only real ordering split, and Cisco’s ordering guide does not document an in-place upgrade PID from Network Essentials to Network Advantage on this hardware, so a design that outgrows Layer 2 and basic routed access must be ordered as C9300-24T-A from the start rather than upgraded later.
- Choosing C9300-48T-A instead of C9300-24T-A doubles port count to 48 on the same data-only, no-PoE power profile and the same Network Advantage tier; the tradeoff is purely port density, since switching capacity moves from 208 Gbps to 256 Gbps and forwarding rate from 154.76 Mpps to 190.47 Mpps to serve the larger port count, not a different feature set.
- Moving to C9300-24P-A instead of C9300-24T-A adds a 445W PoE+ budget on the same 24-port count and Network Advantage tier, at the cost of a larger 715W AC default power supply; a closet with no PoE endpoints has no reason to carry that heavier supply, but any plan to add IP phones or access points later needs the C9300-24P-A form factor instead.
- For deciding which SKU to order in this group, settle the PoE requirement first, since only C9300-24P-A differs on power sourcing, then size the port count between C9300-24T-A and C9300-48T-A; the license tier only matters when comparing against C9300-24T-E, because C9300-48T-A and C9300-24P-A already default to Network Advantage in this comparison set.
Selection Guide
1. When Network Essentials Covers The Role
Network Advantage on C9300-24T-A adds VXLAN, Cisco TrustSec, and unrestricted OSPF route scale over the Network Essentials tier carried by the same hardware on C9300-24T-E; a pure Layer 2 access role with no segmentation or advanced routing requirement can take the C9300-24T-E at the lower license tier instead.
2. Network Module Selection Before BOM Lock
C9300-24T-A ships with an empty uplink bay, so the design must pick a network module such as C9300-NM-8X for 10G fiber or C9300-NM-2Q for 40G; leaving the bay unfilled forces a C9300-NM-BLANK cover and no uplink path at all, so the module choice is part of sizing this SKU, not an afterthought.
3. PoE Requirement Changes The Chassis
C9300-24T-A carries no PoE budget on its default 350W supply; a deployment that later needs to power IP phones or access points at the same 24-port count has to move to C9300-24P-A instead, since the data-only chassis cannot be field-upgraded to source PoE.
4. No In-Place License Upgrade Path
Cisco’s ordering guide does not list an in-place upgrade PID that converts a Network Essentials order to Network Advantage on this hardware; a design that might need Advantage-tier segmentation later should order C9300-24T-A up front rather than plan on upgrading a C9300-24T-E after deployment.
Ordering Checklist
|
Check Item |
What to Confirm |
Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
|
Network module selection |
Confirm which uplink module (C9300-NM-8X, C9300-NM-2Q, C9300-NM-4G, C9300-NM-4M, or C9300-NM-2Y) is ordered alongside C9300-24T-A, or that C9300-NM-BLANK is used if none is needed. |
Without a module or blank cover, the uplink bay is left open and the required airflow path is not maintained. |
|
Software subscription tier match |
Confirm the Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA subscription ordered is Advantage tier, matching the Network Advantage hardware license. |
A mismatched Essentials subscription against Advantage hardware license does not align with Cisco’s ordering structure. |
|
Smart Account binding |
Confirm the target Smart Account and Virtual Account are set before the order is placed. |
Entitlements are recorded in Cisco Smart Software Manager and cannot activate correctly against the wrong account. |
|
Second power supply need |
Confirm whether a second PWR-C1-350WAC-P, PWR-C1-715WAC-P, or PWR-C1-1100WAC-P is required for supply redundancy. |
The chassis ships with only one supply installed; the second slot needs either a supply or a blank to maintain thermal design. |
|
Stack partner license tier |
Confirm any additional stack members share the same Network Advantage license tier. |
StackWise-480 stacking is only supported among C9300 members on the same license tier. |
