M2USB-16G Description
The M2USB-16G is a Cisco M.2 USB SSD storage module for the external M.2 slot on Catalyst 8300 and Catalyst 8200 Series Edge Platforms. The module provides 16 GB of storage and can be removed or replaced without opening the chassis. The module is the default storage on C8300-1N1S-6T, C8300-1N1S-4T2X and C8200-1N-4T, while C8200L-1N-4T ships without M.2 storage.

A small branch running a C8200L-1N-4T has no M.2 storage out of the box, so the module adds 16 GB of local storage beyond the 8 GB of onboard flash that holds system files and logs.
At an unstaffed remote site, a technician can replace the storage card in a Catalyst 8300 or C8200-1N-4T edge router from its external slot, without opening the chassis or moving the router.

M2USB-16G is the 16 GB M.2 USB SSD of this group, against 32 GB on the same M.2 USB media for M2USB-32G and 600 GB of M.2 NVMe self-encrypted storage for SSD-M2SED-600G. M2USB-16G is the default storage on Catalyst 8300 models and on C8200-1N-4T, so those platforms need no separate line for it, while C8200L-1N-4T can take it as spare or upgrade storage. Sites that need more than 16 GB on M.2 USB media should order M2USB-32G. Deployments that need a self-encrypted NVMe drive should order SSD-M2SED-600G, which the Catalyst 8200 data sheet lists with IOS XE 17.12.1 support.
Ordering Checklist
- Catalyst 8200 hosts: M2USB-16G is the default M.2 storage on C8200-1N-4T and an add-on on C8200L-1N-4T. C8200L-1N-4T is excluded from the default 16 GB M.2 USB storage, so add the part to that order.
- Catalyst 8300 hosts: C8300-1N1S-6T and C8300-1N1S-4T2X ship with 16 GB M.2 USB storage by default. Order a second M2USB-16G only as a spare, because these chassis already include the 16 GB part.
