The subscription tier must match the Network Stack on the switch, so Network Essentials hardware takes C9300-DNA-E-24-3Y and Network Advantage hardware takes C9300-DNA-A-24-3Y. An Essentials switch can move to Advantage later with the C9300-24-E-A-3, -5 or -7 upgrade license, which cannot be added to the original order. Switches with 48 copper ports take C9300-DNA-A-48-3Y, and a 5-year term on the same 24-port Advantage switch is C9300-DNA-A-24-5Y.
Ordering Checklist
- Hardware tier: Pair the subscription with a switch carrying the -A suffix (Network Advantage) to match DNA Advantage. The subscription and the license built into the switch must be the same level; Advantage hardware with a DNA Essentials subscription is allowed only at renewal.
- Stack members: Keep the same license level on every member of a stack. A C9300 stack forms only from members on one license level.
- Host family: Use a C9300 or C9300X 24-port copper switch with modular uplinks; C9300-24S uses its own fiber license series and C9300L models use the C9300L-DNA series. Each Catalyst 9300 hardware family has its own license PID series, so the wrong series does not match the switch.
- Term: Select the 3-year term explicitly. CCW offers 3, 5 and 7 years and defaults to 5.
- Smart Account: Name the Smart Account that will hold the license, or create one at purchase if none exists. A Smart Account is mandatory when ordering Catalyst 9300 software.
