FPR4115-NGFW-K9 Description
The FPR4115-NGFW-K9 is a Cisco Secure Firewall 4100 Series 1RU Threat Defense firewall appliance for data center and internet edge security. The appliance delivers 33 Gbps of FW + AVC + IPS throughput, 15 million concurrent sessions with AVC and 12.5 Gbps of IPsec VPN throughput, with eight fixed SFP+ ports and two network module bays. The appliance runs Threat Defense rather than ASA software, and it starts with a single 1100W AC supply, with a second supply or 950W DC supplies optional.

Key Features
On the Threat Defense image the appliance handles 33 Gbps of FW + AVC and FW + AVC + IPS traffic and 210K new connections per second with AVC. The 80 Gbps firewall summary figure is a basic firewall rating, so inspection with AVC and IPS is sized on the 33 Gbps numbers.
Eight SFP+ data ports sit on the supervisor, and two network module bays extend the chassis to as many as 4 x 100G, 24 x 10G or 8 x 40G interfaces when both bays are filled.
The module bays also take fail-to-wire modules in 1G copper, 1G SX, 10G SR, 10G LR and 40G SR forms, which keep an inline link passing traffic if the appliance loses power.
Threat Defense on this platform supports clusters of up to 16 appliances and Multi-Instance operation, with Active/Standby as the high-availability pairing.
The appliance starts with one 1100W AC supply on 100 to 240 VAC input. A second AC supply, or one or two 950W DC supplies, can be added for 1+1 redundancy.
Memory is 192 GB, and the 400 GB SSD in slot 1 hosts the logical device instance. Slot 2 accepts only the optional MSP, and RAID is not supported.
Application Scenarios
A mid-size data center edge can place the appliance between the upstream routers and the server networks, using the eight SFP+ ports for 10G links and the two module bays for 40G or 100G uplinks.
An internet gateway at a regional campus can run Threat Defense on the appliance to apply AVC and IPS policy to outbound and inbound traffic within the 33 Gbps inspection capacity.
A headquarters site that terminates remote-office and mobile VPN tunnels can aggregate them on the appliance, which supports 12.5 Gbps of IPsec throughput and 15,000 VPN peers.

FPR4115-NGFW-K9 and FPR4115-ASA-K9 share the same Firepower 4115 hardware, with 192 GB memory, 400 GB storage, eight SFP+ ports and two network module bays, and differ only in software role: the NGFW PID runs Threat Defense, while FPR4115-ASA-K9 is the ASA appliance. A smaller design can use FPR4112-NGFW-K9, which lists 40G firewall and 19G NGFW performance, 96 GB memory and 10 million AVC sessions. A larger one moves to FPR4125-NGFW-K9, with 45G NGFW, 25 million AVC sessions, 800 GB storage and dual 1100W AC supplies, where FPR4115-NGFW-K9 ships with a single 1100W AC supply.
