NIM-2CE1T1-PRI Description
The NIM-2CE1T1-PRI is a Cisco 2-port T1/E1 PRI Network Interface Module for channelized and clear-channel WAN circuits on Cisco 4000 Series ISR and ASR 1001-X routers. The module has two T1/E1 ports that each carry 24 channel groups on T1 or 31 on E1, and it supports clear-channel data, unstructured E1 (G.703) and channelized data. The module is not supported on 2900 or 3900 routers, and packet voice is supported on Cisco 4000 Series ISR hosts with a PVDM4 fitted to the module, while the Cisco ASR 1001-X supported-hardware table lists it as not supported.

A branch router terminates two T1 or E1 PRI circuits from a carrier on this module and carries them as channelized WAN links into the 4000 Series ISR or ASR 1001-X.
A site with a point-to-point E1 leased line uses the unstructured E1 (G.703) mode, while a T1 data circuit runs in clear-channel mode, both from the same two-port module.

NIM-2CE1T1-PRI has two T1/E1 ports against one on NIM-1CE1T1-PRI and eight on NIM-8CE1T1-PRI, and all three are marked for clear-channel data, unstructured E1 (G.703) and channelized data. Port density decides the choice: one circuit fits NIM-1CE1T1-PRI, and eight circuits in one slot need NIM-8CE1T1-PRI. Cisco’s ASR 1001-X table limits each NIM-8CE1T1-PRI port to 15 channel groups, while CE1T1-PRI ports otherwise carry 24 channel groups on T1 and 31 on E1, so a design that needs more per port stays on NIM-2CE1T1-PRI. Packet voice depends on the host: it is supported on a Cisco 4000 Series ISR with a PVDM4 and not supported on the Cisco ASR 1001-X, where a voice trunk moves to an MFT model such as NIM-1MFT-T1/E1.
