PVDM4-64 Description
The PVDM4-64 is a Cisco PVDM4 voice DSP module for Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers that run IP voice, conferencing and transcoding. The module provides 64 DSP channels, of which 64 are low-complexity, 48 medium-complexity and 32 high-complexity, and draws 4.85W at 3.3V. Every Cisco 4000 Series router except the ISR 4461 takes PVDM4 modules, and TDM voice services require the module to sit on a T1/E1 NIM.

PVDM4-64 is the 64-channel PVDM4 voice DSP module, sitting between PVDM4-32 at 32 channels and PVDM4-128 at 128 channels in the same motherboard or T1/E1 NIM slot family. A codec plan that needs more than 64 channels moves up to PVDM4-128, and a smaller plan can drop to PVDM4-32. Routers that take their DSP in a Network Interface Module slot, namely the Catalyst 8300 and the ISR 4461, which has no motherboard PVDM4 slot, use NIM-PVDM-64 instead, a 64-channel module that carries IP voice only and cannot serve TDM. TDM voice therefore stays with PVDM4-64 installed on a T1/E1 NIM.
Ordering Checklist
- Motherboard PVDM4 slot: Order for Cisco 4000 Series ISR models with a motherboard PVDM4 slot, which is every 4000 Series ISR except the ISR 4461. The ISR 4461 has no such slot, so the module cannot be placed there.
- T1/E1 NIM: Pair with NIM-xMFT-T1/E1 voice and WAN NIMs in 1, 2, 4 or 8 ports, which carry the PVDM4 on the module. Voice on these NIMs needs it for channels and echo cancellation.
