NIM-4FXSP Description
Cisco NIM-4FXSP is a four-port Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) analog voice Network Interface Module designed for Cisco ISR 4000 Series routers. Each port can function either as a standard FXS line or as Direct Inward Dial (DID) for inbound-only PSTN calls, enabling versatile deployment in branch and enterprise networks. With integrated DSP resources, the module supports up to 128-ms echo cancellation, a broad set of codecs, and compatibility with fax and modem devices via T.38 relay and pass-through.As a “P” version, the NIM-4FXSP incorporates a new hardware component with no functional differences from non-P models. It supports online insertion and removal (OIR) for reduced downtime, works with IOS XE 16.5 or later, and interworks seamlessly with SCCP, H.323, SIP, and MGCP 1.0 Unified Communications protocols.
Key Features
Provides four analog station interfaces with DID capability, supporting analog phones, fax machines, key systems, and inbound PSTN lines.
Includes built-in DSP for TDM voice features, eliminating the need for router PVDMs and enabling echo cancellation up to 128 ms, VAD, and comfort noise generation.
Supports G.711, G.729a, G.726, plus G.723 and iSAC for efficient bandwidth utilization and compatibility across enterprise WAN deployments.
Delivers caller-ID generation, battery polarity reversal, Message Waiting Indicator (MWI), cable detection, and long-loop support, enhancing analog line reliability.
Compatible with T.38 fax relay, fax pass-through, and modem pass-through, ensuring reliable operation of legacy fax machines and dial-up devices.
Supports OIR on ISR 4300/4400 platforms, SNMP/MIB-based manageability, and interoperability with SCCP, H.323, SIP, and MGCP 1.0 under Cisco IOS XE.
Applications Scenarios
Deploy analog phones, fax machines, or DID trunks in small branches while migrating to VoIP.
Support guest-room telephony, POS modems, and fax lines with MWI and caller-ID functions.
Maintain compliant analog connectivity for fax, alarms, and regulated devices while enabling PSTN backup lines.
