NIM-4FXSP Description
NIM-4FXSP is a Cisco 4000 Series ISR analog voice Network Interface Module for adding four FXS, FXS-E, or DID-capable voice ports to a supported branch router NIM slot. It is used when a Cisco 4300 or 4400 Series ISR needs station-side analog connectivity for phones, fax machines, or key systems, or DID incoming-call service from the PSTN. Cisco identifies this P-version module as functionally equivalent to the non-P version, requiring Cisco IOS XE 16.5 or later, with onboard DSP for voice services, straight-through 2-wire cabling for FXS port connections, and OIR support in supported Cisco 4000 Series ISR NIM slots when no active calls are present.

Application Scenarios
Specify NIM-4FXSP when a Cisco 4000 Series ISR needs four FXS-class ports for analog phones, fax devices, key systems, or DID-mode handoff in one NIM position.
Keep NIM-4FXSP in the bill when the hardware line item must use the P-suffix PID and the router software plan can meet Cisco’s IOS XE 16.5-and-above requirement.
Select this module for a four-port FXS or DID refresh when the site does not need the FXO line-side ports included on the NIM-2FXS/4FXOP combo module.

- In a NIM-4FXSP vs NIM-4FXS comparison, both are four-port FXS/FXS-E/DID NIMs, but NIM-4FXSP is the P-version PID and uses the XE16.5-and-above software row.
- The NIM-4FXSP vs NIM-2FXSP difference is FXS density: NIM-4FXSP provides four FXS-class ports, while NIM-2FXSP provides two.
- For a NIM-4FXSP vs NIM-2FXS/4FXOP comparison, the interface mix changes because NIM-2FXS/4FXOP adds four FXO ports and only keeps two FXS-class positions.
- Which model to choose depends on whether the BOM requires the exact P-version four-port FXS PID, the non-P four-port PID, a lower-density P-version FXS card, or a mixed FXS and FXO module.
Selection Guide
1. Match the four-port P-version PID
Choose NIM-4FXSP when the Cisco 4000 Series ISR design needs four FXS/FXS-E/DID-capable ports and procurement requires the P-version product ID.
2. Keep NIM-4FXS separate for non-P bills
Select NIM-4FXS instead only when the bill specifies the non-P four-port FXS module and the software plan follows the non-P release row.
3. Move down only for two FXS ports
Choose NIM-2FXSP when the site needs the P-version FXS family but only two station-side or DID-capable analog ports are required.
4. Separate FXS-only from mixed analog voice
Choose NIM-2FXS/4FXOP only when the same router slot must include FXO trunk ports along with two FXS/FXS-E/DID-capable positions.
