N9K-C9504-FM-E Description
The N9K-C9504-FM-E is a Cisco Nexus 9500 Series cloud-scale fabric module for the 4-slot Nexus 9504 chassis in data center spine and aggregation switching. The module delivers 800 Gbps to each line-card slot, 3,200 Gbps in total, with a 100 Gbps maximum flow size, and it sits behind the fan trays in one of six rear fabric slots. Every fabric module in the chassis must be the same type, and the N9K-X9716D-GX 400G line card does not run on this module.

In a Cisco ACI fabric, a Nexus 9504 spine built on N9K-X9732C-EX, N9K-X9736C-FX or N9K-X9736C-FX3 line cards relies on these modules to switch traffic between its 100G leaf-facing ports.
A data center aggregation chassis running NX-OS can mix N9K-X97160YC-EX cards for 10/25G server rows with N9K-X9788TC-FX cards for copper racks, while the fabric modules carry traffic between the cards at 800 Gbps per slot.

N9K-C9504-FM-E and N9K-C9508-FM-E share the same 800 Gbps per-slot rating and 100 Gbps flow size, but N9K-C9504-FM-E fits only the 4-slot Nexus 9504, while an 8-slot Nexus 9508 needs N9K-C9508-FM-E running with N9K-C9508-FAN trays. A Nexus 9504 that will host N9K-X9716D-GX line cards or carry flows above 100 Gbps needs N9K-C9504-FM-G, which gives 1.6 Tbps per slot and runs only with N9K-C9504-FAN2 trays. Because all fabric modules in a chassis must be the same type, moving to N9K-C9504-FM-G replaces every installed N9K-C9504-FM-E and the three fan trays in one change.

- Nexus 9504 chassis: N9K-C9504 chassis cooled by N9K-C9504-FAN trays, with every installed fabric module an N9K-C9504-FM-E. The 8-slot and 16-slot Nexus 9500 chassis take their own fabric modules.
- Line cards: N9K-X9732C-EX, N9K-X9732C-FX, N9K-X9736C-EX, N9K-X9736C-FX, N9K-X9736C-FX3, N9K-X9736Q-FX, N9K-X97160YC-EX and N9K-X9788TC-FX. N9K-X9716D-GX does not run on this module.
