C9500-24Q-A Description
The C9500-24Q-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch for 40G campus core and data center aggregation. The switch has 24 40G QSFP+ ports, up to 96 10G ports through breakout cables, 1,920 Gbps of switching capacity and 1,440 Mpps of forwarding. The -A suffix carries Network Advantage, which adds BGP, VXLAN, MPLS, StackWise Virtual and MACsec-256 to the Layer 2 and routed access features of Network Essentials.

Product Performance
Key Features
The 1 RU chassis carries 24 QSFP+ ports at 40G, twice the density of the 12-port model in the same family.
Each QSFP+ port maps to four 10G interfaces with supported breakout cables, for up to 96 configurable 10G ports.
The UADP 2.0 ASIC gives up to 1,920 Gbps of switching capacity and up to 1,440 Mpps of forwarding.
Network Advantage adds BGP, IS-IS, VRF, VXLAN, LISP, BGP-EVPN and MPLS, along with MACsec-256 and WAN MACsec.
Two chassis can run as one logical switch with SSO and ISSU over the StackWise Virtual Link, a capability limited to the Advantage tier.
Two power supply slots hold PWR-C4-950WAC-R or PWR-C4-950WDC-R units in a 1+1 pair, and the FAN-T4-R fan module cools the chassis.
Application Scenarios
A campus core built on 40G fiber can terminate up to 24 QSFP+ links from distribution switches in one 1 RU chassis, with BGP, VRF and MPLS available under Network Advantage.
An aggregation row for server racks can split QSFP+ ports with breakout cables into 10G links, up to 96 in total, and keep 40G on the ports that face the core.
Two switches joined by StackWise Virtual present one logical core to the distribution layer through multichassis EtherChannel, and SSO and ISSU keep it running through upgrades.

C9500-24Q-A and C9500-24Q-E use the same 24-port 40G QSFP+ hardware, with 96 configurable 10G breakout ports, 1,920 Gbps of switching capacity and 1,440 Mpps of forwarding; the difference is the license, because the -E carries Network Essentials. Sites that need only Layer 2 and routed access can order C9500-24Q-E, while BGP, VRF, VXLAN, MPLS, StackWise Virtual and MACsec-256 require the Network Advantage tier of C9500-24Q-A. Where 12 native 40G ports are enough, C9500-12Q-A halves the platform to 48 breakout 10G ports, 960 Gbps and 720 Mpps at the same Network Advantage tier.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription and Smart Account: Add a term-based Catalyst Software Subscription or Cisco DNA subscription at the Network Advantage tier, and name a Smart Account on the order. The order cannot be completed without both.
- Power supplies: A second supply is preselected by default; select C9500-SPS-NONE to remove it. PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2 is the redundant AC order PID and PWR-C4-950WDC-R is the DC option. AC or DC must match the site feed.
- Power cord: Select a power cord before the configuration is complete. The configurator will not finish without a cord selection.
