C9500-24X-E Description
The C9500-24X-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch with Network Essentials for 10G fiber distribution in campus buildings. The switch has 24 1/10G SFP/SFP+ ports (16 fixed plus the 8-port C9500-NM-8X module), 480 Gbps of switching capacity, 360 Mpps of forwarding and 64,000 MAC addresses. Network Essentials covers Layer 2 and routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes, but not BGP, VXLAN, StackWise Virtual or MACsec-256.

Product Performance
Key Features
The 16 fixed ports and the C9500-NM-8X module add up to 24 ports, each running at 1G or 10G, in a single 1 RU switch.
Network Essentials provides Layer 2, routed access with RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF up to 1,000 routes, and MACsec-128.
The UADP 2.0 ASIC switches up to 480 Gbps and forwards up to 360 Mpps, with 64,000 MAC addresses and 80,000 IPv4 host routes.
The C9500-NM-8X fills the uplink bay with eight more 1/10G SFP/SFP+ ports, and the platform accepts the 2-port 40G C9500-NM-2Q as its only other module.
The chassis has two slots for 1+1 redundancy and takes the 950W AC PWR-C4-950WAC-R or the DC PWR-C4-950WDC-R, with FAN-T4-R fans cooling front to back.
The hardware starts at Cisco IOS XE Fuji 16.8.1a and has 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of flash.
Application Scenarios
A building distribution layer collects 10G fiber uplinks from access closets on the switch’s SFP/SFP+ ports and hands routed traffic to the campus core.
A campus that routes at the access layer with OSPF terminates those routed links on the switch, using the Network Essentials feature set for Layer 2 and routed access.
A server room connects 10G hosts and storage gateways straight to the 24 SFP/SFP+ ports and carries their VLANs toward the core.

C9500-24X-E and C9500-24X-A share the 16 base 10G SFP/SFP+ ports plus the C9500-NM-8X module for 24 ports in total, and C9500-24X-E carries Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2, routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes, and MACsec-128. Designs that need full BGP routing, VXLAN, BGP-EVPN, StackWise Virtual or MACsec-256 must order C9500-24X-A, and an installed Essentials switch needs Cisco’s 16-port 10G Advantage upgrade license to follow. Sites that want 40G uplinks rather than eight extra 10G ports should choose C9500-16X-2Q-E, which bundles the 2 x 40G C9500-NM-2Q module and keeps 16 10G ports in total.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription tier: Add a term-based Network Essentials subscription such as C9500-DNA-L-E-3Y, C9500-DNA-L-E-5Y or C9500-DNA-L-E-7Y. Every new order needs a subscription at the same tier as the -E license.
- Second power supply: The configurator preselects a second supply; C9500-SPS-NONE removes it, and the redundant PID is PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2. The second supply stays on the order unless removed explicitly.
- Power cord: Select a power cord for the destination country. The configuration cannot be completed without one.
- Network module: C9500-NM-8X is already bundled; a spare is C9500-NM-8X=. The module bay must hold a module or a blank, and the bundle already fills it.
- Smart Account: Name the Smart Account on the order. New orders must specify one.
