C9500-24X-A Description
The C9500-24X-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch with Network Advantage for campus distribution blocks that run 10G fiber. The switch has 24 1/10G SFP/SFP+ ports (16 fixed plus the 8-port C9500-NM-8X module), 480 Gbps of switching capacity, 360 Mpps of forwarding and 64,000 MAC addresses. The module bay must always hold a network module or a blank, and the platform accepts only the C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q.

Key Features
The 16 fixed ports and the 8-port C9500-NM-8X module give 24 ports that each run at 1G or 10G, so mixed 1G and 10G fiber links share one 1 RU switch.
Network Advantage adds full BGP and IS-IS routing, VRF, VXLAN, BGP-EVPN, StackWise Virtual and MACsec-256 to the Layer 2 and routed-access base.
The UADP 2.0 ASIC forwards up to 360 Mpps and switches up to 480 Gbps, with 64,000 MAC addresses and 80,000 IPv4 host routes.
The bay holds the 8-port 10G module here, and a blank panel is required whenever no module is installed. The 2-port 40G C9500-NM-2Q is the only other supported module.
The 950W PWR-C4-950WAC-R is the default supply, a second supply gives 1+1 redundancy, and the FAN-T4-R fan module cools the chassis front to back with up to five fans.
The hardware needs Cisco IOS XE 16.8.1 or later and carries 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of flash for the image and logs.
Application Scenarios
A building distribution layer terminates 10G fiber uplinks from several access closets on the switch’s 24 SFP/SFP+ ports and passes the traffic on to the campus core.
A small data center row connects 10G servers and storage gateways to the switch, using the Network Advantage routing features to route between VLANs at the aggregation point.
Two switches in a campus core pair run StackWise Virtual, and multichassis EtherChannel lets downstream distribution switches uplink to both units as one logical device.

C9500-24X-A and C9500-24X-E are the same 16-port 10G switch with the 8 x 10GE C9500-NM-8X module, and the suffix separates them: C9500-24X-A carries Network Advantage, while C9500-24X-E carries Network Essentials. A design that needs only Layer 2 and routed access can drop to C9500-24X-E, giving up the full routing, VXLAN, StackWise Virtual and MACsec-256 that Advantage adds. Sites that want 40G uplinks instead of eight more 10G ports should order C9500-16X-2Q-A, which bundles the 2 x 40GE C9500-NM-2Q module and stays at 16 base 10G ports. C9500-16X-A is the base switch with no module included, so it suits orders that pick the module separately.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription tier: Add a term-based Network Advantage subscription such as C9500-DNA-L-A-3Y, C9500-DNA-L-A-5Y or C9500-DNA-L-A-7Y. Every new order needs a subscription at the same tier as the -A license.
- Second power supply: The configurator preselects a second supply; C9500-SPS-NONE removes it, and the redundant PID is PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2. The second supply stays on the order unless removed explicitly.
- Power cord: Select a power cord for the destination country. The configuration cannot be completed without one.
- Network module: C9500-NM-8X is already bundled; a spare is C9500-NM-8X=. The module bay must hold a module or a blank, and the bundle already fills it.
- Smart Account: Name the Smart Account on the order. New orders must specify one.
