The C9500-32QC-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch with Network Advantage licensing for campus aggregation built around 40G links. The switch runs as 32 x 40G QSFP+, 16 x 100G QSFP28 or a mixed 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G profile, with 3.2 Tbps of switching capacity, 1 Bpps of forwarding and 82,000 MAC address entries. The switch does not support C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q network modules, and breakout to 10G or 25G is not published for it.

The -A suffix adds BGP, IS-IS, VXLAN, TrustSec and StackWise Virtual to the Layer 2 and OSPF base of Network Essentials.
Ports run as 32 x 40G, 16 x 100G or 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G. A mixed profile suits aggregation that needs a few 100G uplinks above many 40G links.
100G density is half that of the C9500-32C-A, so a design that needs 100G on every port belongs on the larger model.
Switching capacity of up to 3.2 Tbps and 1 Bpps forwarding come from Cisco UADP 3.0 with 16 GB DRAM and 16 GB flash, and the MAC table holds up to 82,000 entries.
The supply slots take C9K-PWR-650WAC-R, C9K-PWR-650WACL-R or C9K-PWR-930WDC-R. A single C9K-PWR-650WACL-R in a dual-supply setup causes erratic operation and service interruption.
The C9K-T1-FANTRAY carries up to four fans and is a different tray from the C9K-T2-FANTRAY on the 1600W-supply models.
Application Scenarios
In a campus aggregation layer built on 40G, the switch takes uplinks from access switches on its 32 QSFP+ ports and applies Network Advantage routing.
A site moving its core links to 100G can use the mixed 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G profile to keep existing 40G downlinks while the uplinks step up to 100G.
An enterprise that segments traffic with VRFs and VXLAN can run both on the switch at the aggregation layer, using its Network Advantage license.

C9500-32QC-A and C9500-32C-A both carry Network Advantage and 32 QSFP28 ports, but C9500-32QC-A gives 100G on only 16 ports, or 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G, at 3.2 Tbps and 1 Bpps, against 32 x 100G at 6.4 Tbps and 2 Bpps on C9500-32C-A. Fully 100G-populated aggregation, or any 10G/25G breakout, therefore goes to C9500-32C-A, which also moves to 1600W supplies and C9K-T2-FANTRAY instead of the 650W supplies and C9K-T1-FANTRAY here. Sites that can run Layer 2, routed access and OSPF up to 1,000 routes only can order C9500-32QC-E, the same hardware on Network Essentials.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription and Smart Account: Add a term-based Catalyst Software Subscription or Cisco DNA subscription at the Advantage tier, and name the Smart Account it is placed under. The subscription must match the Network Advantage license on this switch, and the order cannot be completed without a Smart Account.
- Second power supply: The configurator preselects a second supply; C9500-SPS-NONE removes it. With two supplies, both slots take the same type. A lone C9K-PWR-650WACL-R in a dual-supply setup causes faults and interrupts network service.
- Power cord: Select a power cord for each supply ordered. The configuration cannot be completed without one.
- RFID: Choose C9500-RFID or C9500-RFID-NONE on the order. RFID cannot be added after the switch ships.
