C9500-32QC-E Description
The C9500-32QC-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch with Network Essentials licensing for campus aggregation built around 40G links. The switch runs as 32 x 40G QSFP+, 16 x 100G QSFP28 or a mixed 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G profile, with 3.2 Tbps of switching capacity, 1 Bpps of forwarding and 82,000 MAC address entries. The switch does not support C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q network modules, and the -E suffix leaves out BGP, VXLAN and StackWise Virtual.

Product Performance
Key Features
The -E suffix covers Layer 2, routed access, OSPF up to 1,000 routes and MACsec-128. BGP, IS-IS, VXLAN and TrustSec require Network Advantage.
Ports run as 32 x 40G, 16 x 100G or 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G, which lets one switch handle 40G density and a few 100G uplinks.
100G density is half that of the C9500-32C-E, and the 100G ports share the same 32 QSFP28 cages.
Switching capacity of up to 3.2 Tbps and forwarding of up to 1 Bpps sit at half the C9500-32C-E figures, with no network module slot for added ports.
The supply slots take C9K-PWR-650WAC-R, C9K-PWR-650WACL-R or C9K-PWR-930WDC-R rather than the 1600W supplies of the C9500-32C-E.
The C9K-T1-FANTRAY carries up to four fans and is a different tray from the C9K-T2-FANTRAY used by the 32 x 100G models.
Application Scenarios
In a campus distribution layer, the switch aggregates 40G uplinks from access switches on its QSFP+ ports and routes between VLANs with OSPF.
A distribution switch that serves many 40G downlinks can use the 24 x 40G plus 4 x 100G profile to send its uplinks to the core at 100G.
A branch campus that needs Layer 2 and routed access, without BGP or VXLAN, can aggregate its closets on the switch within Network Essentials.

C9500-32QC-E and C9500-32QC-A are the same 32 QSFP28 hardware, 16 ports at 100G on 3.2 Tbps and 1 Bpps, and differ in license: C9500-32QC-E carries Network Essentials with Layer 2, routed access, OSPF up to 1,000 routes and MACsec-128. Full routing such as BGP and IS-IS, VXLAN, TrustSec or MACsec-256 requires C9500-32QC-A. A design that needs 100G on all 32 ports, with 6.4 Tbps and 2 Bpps, moves to C9500-32C-E, which also changes the supply to 1600W C9K-PWR-1600WAC-R and the fan tray to C9K-T2-FANTRAY.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription and Smart Account: Add a term-based Catalyst Software Subscription or Cisco DNA subscription at the Essentials tier, and name the Smart Account it is placed under. The subscription must match the Network Essentials license on this switch, and the order cannot be completed without a Smart Account.
- Second power supply: The configurator preselects a second supply; C9500-SPS-NONE removes it. With two supplies, both slots take the same type. A lone C9K-PWR-650WACL-R in a dual-supply setup causes faults and interrupts network service.
- Power cord: Select a power cord for each supply ordered. The configuration cannot be completed without one.
- RFID: Choose C9500-RFID or C9500-RFID-NONE on the order. RFID cannot be added after the switch ships.
