C9500-24Q-E Description
The C9500-24Q-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series fixed core and aggregation switch for 40G distribution and aggregation. The switch has 24 40G QSFP+ ports, up to 96 10G ports through breakout cables, 1,920 Gbps of switching capacity and 1,440 Mpps of forwarding. The -E suffix carries Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2, routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes and MACsec-128 but not BGP, VXLAN or StackWise Virtual.

Key Features
The 1 RU chassis carries 24 QSFP+ ports at 40G, twice the density of the 12-port model in the same family.
Each QSFP+ port maps to four 10G interfaces with supported breakout cables, for up to 96 configurable 10G ports.
The UADP 2.0 ASIC gives up to 1,920 Gbps of switching capacity and up to 1,440 Mpps of forwarding.
Layer 2 forwarding and routed access with RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF up to 1,000 routes are included. BGP, VRF, VXLAN and StackWise Virtual need Network Advantage.
Network Essentials includes 128-bit MACsec, while 256-bit MACsec and WAN MACsec belong to the Advantage tier.
Two power supply slots hold PWR-C4-950WAC-R or PWR-C4-950WDC-R units in a 1+1 pair, and the FAN-T4-R fan module cools the chassis.
Application Scenarios
A distribution layer can converge 40G uplinks from wiring-closet switches on the 24 QSFP+ ports and route toward the core with OSPF inside the 1,000-route limit.
A campus edge room that hands routing to an upstream core can use the switch as a Layer 2 collector for high-speed uplinks, with MACsec-128 on its links.
A server row still on 10G NICs can connect through breakout cables, which turn the 24 QSFP+ ports into up to 96 10G links.

C9500-24Q-E and C9500-24Q-A share the same 24 native 40G QSFP+ ports, 96 breakout 10G ports, 1,920 Gbps and 1,440 Mpps; the -E carries Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2, routed access with OSPF up to 1000 routes and MACsec-128. A site that needs BGP, IS-IS, VRF, VXLAN, BGP-EVPN, StackWise Virtual or MACsec-256 must order C9500-24Q-A, the same hardware with Network Advantage. Where 12 native 40G ports are enough, C9500-12Q-E drops the platform to 48 breakout 10G ports, 960 Gbps and 720 Mpps at the same Network Essentials tier.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription and Smart Account: Add a term-based Catalyst Software Subscription or Cisco DNA subscription at the Network Essentials tier, and name a Smart Account on the order. The order cannot be completed without both.
- Power supplies: A second supply is preselected by default; select C9500-SPS-NONE to remove it. PWR-C4-950WAC-R/2 is the redundant AC order PID and PWR-C4-950WDC-R is the DC option. AC or DC must match the site feed.
- Power cord: Select a power cord before the configuration is complete. The configurator will not finish without a cord selection.
