C9500X-28C8D-E Description
The C9500X-28C8D-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9500X Series fixed core and aggregation switch for campus core and data center spine layers. The switch has 28 40/100G QSFP28 ports, 8 40/100/200/400G QSFP-DD ports, 12 Tbps of switching capacity and 8 Bpps of forwarding rate in a 1RU chassis, and the -E suffix carries Network Essentials. SSO on Catalyst 9500X switches requires StackWise Virtual, and 10G operation needs a QSA adapter.

Key Features
Twenty-eight QSFP28 ports run 40G or 100G, and the odd-numbered ports accept breakout cables for lower-speed links.
Eight QSFP-DD ports support 40G, 100G, 200G and 400G modules inside a fixed 1RU chassis, and all of them support breakout.
QSA adapters give 10G operation on both the QSFP28 and the QSFP-DD ports, which lets existing 10G links stay in service during a core migration.
The suffix fixes the license tier at Network Essentials, with matching Cisco DNA Essentials subscriptions in 3-year, 5-year and 7-year terms.
The Q200 ASIC provides up to 12 Tbps of switching capacity and 8 Bpps of forwarding rate, with 32 GB of DRAM and 32 GB of flash.
Two slots take 1500W AC or DC supplies, and six field-replaceable fans share one airflow direction, front-to-back by default.
Application Scenarios
In a campus that needs a high-capacity core without Network Advantage, the switch connects distribution pairs over 100G QSFP28 links and 400G QSFP-DD links.
A data center row can use the switch to aggregate leaf switches on its QSFP28 ports while the QSFP-DD ports carry links toward the next tier.
A campus core being moved off 10G hardware can keep existing 10G links by fitting QSA adapters into the QSFP28 ports while new 100G links are brought up.

C9500X-28C8D-E and C9500X-28C8D-A are the same 1RU hardware, with 28 QSFP28 ports, 8 QSFP-DD ports, the Cisco Silicon One Q200 ASIC and up to 12 Tbps of switching capacity, and they differ only in license: Network Essentials on C9500X-28C8D-E, Network Advantage on C9500X-28C8D-A. Sites that must run Network Advantage order C9500X-28C8D-A instead of this SKU. Port plans built on 10G, 25G or 50G links need C9500X-60L4D-A, which has 60 SFP56 ports and 4 QSFP-DD ports but no QSFP28 ports, and reaches up to 9.2 Tbps instead of 12 Tbps. Breakout is limited to odd-numbered QSFP28 ports and QSFP-DD ports here, and to QSFP-DD ports only on C9500X-60L4D-A.
Ordering Checklist
