The C9500-24Y4C-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series high-performance fixed switch with Network Essentials for campus distribution blocks that need 25G fiber access with 100G uplinks. The switch has 24 1G/10G/25G SFP28 ports, four fixed 40G/100G QSFP28 uplinks, 2.0 Tbps of switching capacity, 1 Bpps of forwarding and 82,000 MAC addresses. Network Essentials covers Layer 2 and routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes, and the switch takes no network module.

Key Features
Each of the 24 downlink ports negotiates 1G, 10G or 25G, so a fiber plant can move from 10G to 25G without a chassis change.
The uplinks run at 40G or 100G and are built into the chassis, since the platform accepts neither the C9500-NM-8X nor the C9500-NM-2Q.
Network Essentials includes Layer 2, routed access with RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF up to 1,000 routes, and MACsec-128.
The UADP 3.0 ASIC switches up to 2.0 Tbps and holds 82,000 MAC addresses and 256,000 IPv4 routes.
Two slots accept the 650W AC, 650W AC low-voltage or 930W DC supply, and the C9K-T1-FANTRAY cools the chassis with up to four fans.
The hardware needs Cisco IOS XE Fuji 16.8.1a or later and has 16 GB of DRAM and 16 GB of flash.
Application Scenarios
A campus aggregation block connects 25G fiber links from access switches on the SFP28 ports and carries the traffic to the core over the fixed 40G or 100G uplinks.
A distribution layer that routes with OSPF toward the access switches terminates those links on the switch under Network Essentials.
A small data center row connects 25G hosts to the 24 SFP28 ports and sends the traffic upstream through the QSFP28 uplinks.

C9500-24Y4C-E and C9500-24Y4C-A are the same 24-port 25G hardware with four fixed 40G/100G QSFP28 uplinks, and C9500-24Y4C-E carries Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2 and routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes. Designs that need full BGP routing, VXLAN, BGP-EVPN, StackWise Virtual or MACsec-256 must order C9500-24Y4C-A, or move an Essentials switch up with the C9500-DNA-24Y4CEA upgrade license. More than 24 SFP28 access ports calls for C9500-48Y4C-E, which has 48 ports and up to 3.2 Tbps with the same uplinks and power options. Neither 24-port model takes a C9500-NM-8X or C9500-NM-2Q module.
Ordering Checklist
- Subscription tier: Add a term-based Network Essentials subscription such as C9500-DNA-L-E-3Y, -5Y or -7Y. Every new order needs a subscription at the same tier as the -E license.
- Power supplies: C9K-PWR-650WAC-R is the default; C9K-PWR-650WACL-R and C9K-PWR-930WDC-R are the other options. A second supply is preselected; C9500-SPS-NONE removes it. A single C9K-PWR-650WACL-R in a dual-supply setup causes abnormal operation and service interruption.
- Power cord: Select a power cord for the destination country. The configuration cannot be completed without one.
- RFID option: Select C9500-RFID to opt in or C9500-RFID-NONE to opt out. The choice is mandatory on this model and cannot be added after delivery.
- Smart Account: Name the Smart Account on the order. New orders must specify one.
