The C9600X-LC-32CD is a Cisco Catalyst 9600 Series combo line card for Catalyst 9606R chassis that aggregate 100G links and add 400G uplinks. The card has 30 QSFP28 ports at 100G or 40G and 2 QSFP-DD ports at 400G, 100G or 40G (200G is hardware-ready and depends on optic availability), with 6.4 Tbps (3.2 Tbps full duplex) of bandwidth per slot. The card works only with the C9600X-SUP-2 supervisor, and C9600-SUP-1 does not support it.

Key Features
The card has 30 QSFP28 ports for 100G or 40G and 2 QSFP-DD ports for 400G, 100G or 40G (200G is hardware-ready and depends on optic availability). These are the physical ports; they do not all run at full speed at once, because the port-group modes below fix how many 100G and 400G ports are active. The card is built for QSFP-heavy aggregation, not SFP56 server access.
The default mode is 32 x 100G. Switching one port group to 400G gives 28 x 100G plus 1 x 400G, and switching both gives 24 x 100G plus 2 x 400G, with the other ports in each changed group going inactive.
Only the C9600X-SUP-2 supervisor works with the card, starting at Cisco IOS XE 17.9.1. A chassis that still runs C9600-SUP-1 cannot use it.
In the Catalyst 9606R the card installs in line-card slots 1, 2, 5 and 6, which leaves the supervisor positions to the supervisors.
With C9600X-SUP-2 each slot carries 6.4 Tbps (3.2 Tbps full duplex), enough for all 32 ports at 100G in the default mode.
The data sheet states a 420 W maximum rated power with C9600X-SUP-2. Chassis power budgets are planned on the installation guide figures instead: 495 W AC-input allocated, or 450 W DC-output requested on a DC-fed chassis. Optics load adds to that.
Application Scenarios
In a Catalyst 9606R campus core, the line card terminates up to 32 links at 100G in the default mode, or 24 once both QSFP-DD ports run 400G, coming from distribution blocks and data center edge devices.
A core that needs faster links toward a data center spine can set one or two port groups to 400G on the QSFP-DD ports, leaving 28 or 24 ports at 100G for the remaining downstream links.

C9600X-LC-32CD is the QSFP-focused card of this group, with thirty 100G/40G QSFP28 ports and two QSFP-DD ports that run 400G, while C9600X-LC-56YL4C has 56 SFP56 ports at 50G, 25G and 10G and only four QSFP28 uplinks. Racks that need 25G or 50G server-facing density move to C9600X-LC-56YL4C. C9600-LC-40YL4CD sits between them with 40 SFP56 ports, two QSFP56 ports and two QSFP-DD ports, and it is the only one of the three that also runs with C9600-SUP-1, so a chassis that keeps that supervisor needs it, because C9600X-LC-32CD works only with C9600X-SUP-2. Minimum releases differ as well: Cisco IOS XE 17.9.1 for C9600X-LC-32CD, 17.13.1 for C9600X-LC-56YL4C and 17.7.1 for C9600-LC-40YL4CD.
Ordering Checklist
- Catalyst 9606R hosts: Use a Catalyst 9606R chassis with a C9600X-SUP-2 supervisor, with the card in line-card slot 1, 2, 5 or 6. C9600-SUP-1 does not support this card, and other slots are not valid for it.
- Catalyst C9610R hosts: Use a C9610R chassis with C9610-SUP-3 or C9610-SUP-3XL, one C9610-LC-ADPT adapter for the card, and slot 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 or 10. A C9610R takes this Catalyst 9600X card only through C9610-LC-ADPT, which is a separate PID.
