C9610-SUP-3 is the Cisco C9610 Series Supervisor 3 module for the C9610R chassis, used as the centralized control and switching supervisor for high-speed campus distribution or collapsed-core deployments. The module is a C9610 Series Smart Switches Supervisor 3 component for the C9610R platform, with four Cisco Silicon One E100 forwarding ASICs connected through a Q200L fabric ASIC, up to 51.2 Tbps of system switching capacity with 25.6 Tbps full-duplex throughput, up to 15.6 Bpps forwarding performance, and Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1 or later support.

Do not assume the chassis line covers the supervisor requirement; the order should separately show supervisor quantity, line cards, power supplies, fan trays, optics, and software subscription coverage.
Select this SKU when the design requires two C9610-SUP-3 modules in slots 5 and 6 for supervisor redundancy. Cisco documentation says C9610-SUP-3 and C9610-SUP-3XL must not be mixed in the same chassis, so the installed or ordered pair should be checked before purchase.
Choose C9610-SUP-3 for C9610R designs focused on medium-large Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding scale, ACL and Flexible NetFlow scale, and standard 256 MB packet buffering rather than the larger route and buffer scale of C9610-SUP-3XL.

- C9610-SUP-3 is the tighter fit when the project needs C9610R supervisor redundancy but does not require the higher route scale and deeper buffer profile documented for C9610-SUP-3XL.
- C9610-SUP-3XL should be selected separately when the design needs the larger IPv4 or IPv6 route scale and the additional 8 GB buffer resource shown in Cisco’s supervisor comparison.
- Commercial review should keep C9610-SUP-3 quantity separate from chassis availability. A usable order line needs the correct supervisor pair, Cisco IOS XE target, compatible line cards, optics, support entitlement support, and deployment date checked as one configuration.

Select C9610-SUP-3 when the C9610R design, installed spare requirement, or replacement order specifically calls for Supervisor 3 rather than Supervisor 3XL.

For a two-supervisor chassis, confirm that both modules are C9610-SUP-3. Mixing C9610-SUP-3 with C9610-SUP-3XL is not a supported steady configuration in Cisco documentation.
3. Check scale before choosing between C9610-SUP-3 and C9610-SUP-3XL
Use the route scale, packet buffer, ACL scale, and Flexible NetFlow requirements to decide whether C9610-SUP-3 is enough or whether the quote should move to C9610-SUP-3XL.
