The C1000-48T-4G-L is a Cisco Catalyst 1000 Series fixed managed Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switch for access closets that connect data-only endpoints over copper. The switch has 48 10/100/1000 RJ45 data ports, four 1G SFP uplinks, 52 Gbps of forwarding bandwidth and 77.38 Mpps of forwarding rate, and it draws 53.66W without PoE. The switch supplies no PoE and is fan-cooled, and it can be grouped under one management IP only with other Catalyst 1000 units that have 1G uplinks.

The switch has 48 RJ45 ports with no PoE circuitry, which keeps power draw to 53.66W and suits closets where every endpoint has its own supply.
The uplink slots accept SFP optics only, which fits closets that connect to the distribution layer over 1G fiber.
The chassis is fan-cooled with a typical sound pressure of 31.5 dB, quieter than the PoE variants but not silent like the fanless 24-port models.
The maximum consumption rating is low enough to simplify UPS and circuit planning in a closet that holds several switches.
Air enters at the front and sides and leaves at the back. The direction is fixed and cannot be reversed, so rack placement must match the closet airflow.
Up to eight Catalyst 1000 switches with 1G uplinks can join one management group over the front-panel SFP ports. Units with 10G uplinks cannot join the same group.
Application Scenarios
In an open-plan office, the switch connects 48 desktops and printers over copper and carries their traffic to the core through its 1G SFP uplinks.
A school computer lab can use the switch as a data-only access layer, with a single management IP shared across other 1G Catalyst 1000 units in the building.

C1000-48T-4G-L is the 48-port data-only model with four 1G SFP uplinks at a 52 Gbps forwarding class, while C1000-48T-4X-L has the same 48 data ports and no PoE with four 10G SFP+ uplinks at 88 Gbps. Closets that power phones, cameras or access points from the switch need C1000-48P-4G-L, which adds a 370W PoE budget on the same 1G uplinks and a 0.5 kVA power rating against 0.06 kVA. A site with 24 or fewer endpoints can use C1000-24T-4G-L, which is fanless and draws 22.8W without PoE against 53.66W. Single IP Management groups 1G models only with other 1G models, so C1000-48T-4X-L cannot join a group of 4G switches.
Ordering Checklist
- Uplink optics: Add SFP modules only for the four SFP uplink slots, checked in the Cisco Transceiver Module Compatibility Matrix. The SFP slots do not accept SFP+ modules, so a 10G optic cannot be installed.
- Power cord: Select one AC power cord for the destination country. The chassis ships without a cord and the ordering guide requires one to be selected.
- Console cable and cord clip: Add CAB-CONSOLE-RJ45 or CAB-CONSOLE-USB for management access, and PWR-CLP to retain the power cord. These are separate line items, so a switch ordered without them arrives with no console cable or cord clip.
