The C9300L-24P-4X-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9300L fixed-uplink stackable access switch for campus closets that run powered Gigabit access with 10G fiber back to aggregation. The switch has 24 10/100/1000 PoE+ ports, four fixed 10G/1G SFP+ uplinks, StackWise-320 stacking, 128 Gbps of switching capacity and a 505W PoE budget on its default 715W AC supply. The -E suffix carries Network Essentials, which covers Layer 2 and OSPF routing up to 1,000 routes but not BGP, VXLAN or MPLS.

The uplinks are part of the chassis, so no network module is chosen or swapped. Each SFP+ port runs at 10G or drops to 1G for older fiber links.

505W PoE Budget

The default 715W supply provides 505W, about 21W per port across all 24. A second supply lifts the budget to 720W, which covers 30W on every port.

Network Essentials Feature Set

Network Essentials covers Layer 2, routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes, PBR, VRRP, 802.1X and MACsec-128. BGP, VXLAN and MPLS need Network Advantage.

C9300L-24P-4X-E and C9300L-24P-4X-A share the same 24 PoE+ ports, 10G/1G SFP+ uplinks and 505W default PoE budget, so the only thing separating them is Network Essentials against Network Advantage. Sites that need BGP, VXLAN, Cisco TrustSec or MACsec-256 on day one order C9300L-24P-4X-A, or upgrade an installed switch later with a C9300L-LIC= term (C9300L-24-E-A-3, -5 or -7), which cannot be placed on the switch order. A closet that only needs 1G fiber hand-off fits C9300L-24P-4G-E, and one without powered endpoints fits C9300L-24T-4X-E, which runs on a PWR-C1-350WAC-P supply with no PoE.

Ordering Checklist

  • Subscription tier and term: Order a Network Essentials term such as C9300L-DNA-E-24-5Y; Cisco Catalyst subscriptions use the C9300L-DNX family. The configurator defaults to Cisco DNA Advantage for 5 years, which does not match a Network Essentials switch.
  • Second power supply: A second power supply of the same type as the primary is selected by default; C9300L-SPS-NONE removes it. Without it the switch has one supply and no power redundancy.
  • Stack kit: C9300L-STACK-KIT is selected by default with a 50 cm stack cable; 1 m and 3 m cables can be selected instead. Fixed-uplink stacking uses the C9300L stack kit, not the C9300 StackWise cables.
  • Power cords: Select the cord type for the destination country; two cords ship and the default is North America. A wrong cord type needs a replacement at the site.

    No. Both roles belong to Network Advantage, and C9300L-24P-4X-E ships with Network Essentials. Under Advantage in IOS XE 16.12 the Catalyst 9300 takes the VXLAN BGP EVPN VTEP role and the MPLS PE role with 256 VRFs. Essentials stays with Layer 2 and routed access, and OSPF is limited to 1,000 routes.

  • What power does a PoE+ port on C9300L-24P-4X-E give a device?

    A PoE+ port follows IEEE 802.3at Type 2, which provides 30W at the port and 25.5W at the powered device after cable loss. An 802.3af Type 1 device receives 15.4W at the port and 13W at the device. Plan the 505W default budget on those device-side figures, because phones and access points often draw close to their class limit.

  • Is a 1900W AC supply listed for C9300L-24P-4X-E?

    No. The Catalyst 9300 datasheet lists the 350W AC, 715W AC, 715W DC and 1100W AC supplies for the fixed-uplink 9300L, and it does not list the 1900W AC unit for these models. Size the second supply for C9300L-24P-4X-E from those four options. Each switch takes two supplies with N+1 redundancy.

  • How many PVST instances and multicast routes does C9300L-24P-4X-E support?

    Per datasheet Table 8, C9300L-24P-4X-E supports 300 PVST instances, 8,000 multicast routes and 1,000 SVIs. NetFlow holds 64,000 flows. The show sdm prefer output on the Catalyst 9300 may display 1,024 STP instances, so use the datasheet value of 300 for design limits and spanning-tree sizing.

  • How does C9300L-24P-4X-E build its StackWise-320 bandwidth?

    StackWise-320 uses 4 rings of 40 Gbps, giving 160G in each direction, with up to 8 members. C9300L-24P-4X-E stacks only with Catalyst 9300L and 9300LM switches, which can mix with each other at 320G. Modular-uplink Catalyst 9300 switches cannot join, and the members must run the same IOS XE release and license level.

  • Can the fans of C9300L-24P-4X-E be replaced without removing the switch?

    Yes. C9300L-24P-4X-E has three field-replaceable fans with N+1 redundancy, so cooling continues if one fan fails. Airflow runs front-to-rear and side-to-rear. A failed fan module can be replaced while the switch stays in service. The data-only C9300LM-48T-4Y is the exception in the family, with fixed fans.
