C1000-48T-4X-L Description
The C1000-48T-4X-L is a Cisco Catalyst 1000 Series fixed managed Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 access switch for wiring closets that serve many wired endpoints. It has 48 10/100/1000 RJ-45 data ports, four 10G SFP+ uplinks, no PoE budget, 176 Gbps of switching bandwidth, and a fan-cooled chassis. Layer 3 is limited to static routing, so dynamic routing protocols are not part of the feature set.

Key Features
The four uplink slots accept SFP+ and SFP modules, so the closet can reach the aggregation layer at 10G or step down to 1G optics where the far end requires it.
Forwarding bandwidth of 88 Gbps and switching bandwidth of 176 Gbps at 130.94 Mpps keep all 48 Gigabit ports and the uplinks at wire speed.
All 48 ports carry data without a PoE budget, and the switch draws 54.73W with no PoE load, so closet power planning covers only the switch itself.
Up to eight Gigabit Catalyst 1000 switches can be grouped over their SFP/SFP+ uplinks and managed from one IP address. Units with 10G uplinks group only with other 10G units.
The 48-port chassis uses fans and produces 31.5 dB of typical sound pressure. Air moves from the front and sides to the back, and the direction cannot be reversed.
A single non-removable supply takes 100 to 240V AC at 50 to 60 Hz, with surge protection. There is no RPS or XPS port for a backup supply.
Application Scenarios
In a wiring closet serving a full office floor, the switch terminates up to 48 desktop and printer connections and sends their traffic to the distribution layer over its 10G SFP+ uplinks.
A school or library can place the switch in a building closet to connect classroom and lab computers on its Gigabit copper ports, with a 10G uplink to the building aggregation switch.
A retail or branch site can use the switch as its single access switch for back-office computers, point-of-sale terminals and printers, with an SFP+ uplink to the upstream switch.

C1000-48T-4X-L is the data-only 48-port model with four 10G SFP+ uplinks, while C1000-48P-4X-L has the same uplinks and adds a 370W PoE budget, so closets that power phones, cameras or access points from the switch need C1000-48P-4X-L, and C1000-48FP-4X-L raises the budget to 740W. Sites whose aggregation layer still runs 1G SFP modules can order C1000-48T-4G-L, which has four 1G SFP uplinks and a 52 Gbps forwarding class against 88 Gbps. Closets with 24 or fewer copper endpoints can drop to C1000-24T-4X-L, which keeps the 10G uplinks and is fanless, unlike the fan-cooled 48-port chassis. Single IP Management groups only 10G models with other 10G models, so mixed 1G and 10G closets cannot share one management IP.
Ordering Checklist
- Single IP Management: Up to 8 Gigabit Catalyst 1000 switches can be grouped over the front-panel SFP/SFP+ uplinks, and C1000-48T-4X-L only with other 10G models. A group mixing 1G and 10G models is not supported.
- Uplink optics: Add SFP+ or SFP modules for the 4 uplink slots, checked in the Cisco Transceiver Module Compatibility Matrix. Optics are not part of the switch order, and the SFP+ slots accept SFP+ and SFP modules.
- Power cord: Select one AC power cord for the destination country. The cord is not supplied with the switch and must be selected on the order.
