C9200-24T-A Description

The C9200-24T-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9200 modular-uplink stackable access switch built around 24 non-PoE 1G copper data ports and the Network Advantage license tier, aimed at wiring closets that terminate switches, routers, and other unpowered equipment while still needing local routing and segmentation. Uplink speed is set by the network module dropped into the single field-replaceable uplink bay rather than by the chassis itself: the C9200-NM-4G brings 1G aggregation and the C9200-NM-4X brings 10G, so the same hardware line item covers either uplink plan, or the C9200-NM-BLANK if no module is needed yet. A single default PWR-C6-125WAC supply runs the switch with no PoE output at all, reflecting the lower power class Cisco assigns to the data-only variant, and a second PWR-C6-125WAC can be added strictly for power redundancy. Switching capacity lands at 128 Gbps standalone, rising to 288 Gbps when the switch joins a StackWise-160 stack of up to eight modular Catalyst 9200 members, and both the power supply and fan modules are field-replaceable so a closet visit does not turn into a chassis swap. Network Advantage on this hardware layers EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, and VRF-lite, VXLAN, and LISP segmentation over the Layer 2 and Routed Access base that Network Essentials already covers.

Key Features

Routed Segmentation At The Access Tier

The Network Advantage license adds EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, and VRF-lite, VXLAN, and LISP segmentation on top of Network Essentials, so a 24-port data closet can enforce department or tenant boundaries locally instead of forwarding everything upstream at Layer 2.

Lower Power Class Reflects The Non-Powered Port Design

Cisco pairs this data-only model with the PWR-C6-125WAC supply instead of the 600W or 1KW classes used on the PoE+ variants, which lowers the power footprint for a closet where none of the 24 ports need to energize an endpoint.

Uplink Media Decided After The Order, Not Before

The single network-module bay takes either the C9200-NM-4G for 1G aggregation or the C9200-NM-4X for 10G, so the uplink decision rides on the module line item and does not lock in the switch hardware itself.

Eight-Member StackWise-160 Ring

Up to eight modular Catalyst 9200 switches join one 160 Gbps StackWise-160 ring that behaves as a single virtual switch with up to 384 access ports, keeping a growing closet under one management plane with sub-50ms stateful failover.

Field-Serviceable Power And Cooling

The power supply and fan modules on this modular Catalyst 9200 line are FRU parts, so a failed unit is swapped at the rack instead of forcing a full chassis replacement.

Port Security And Telemetry Need No License Upgrade

Port-based 802.1X authentication, MACsec-128 link encryption, model-driven telemetry, and SPAN/RSPAN mirroring are all part of the Network Essentials layer under this switch’s Network Advantage license, so access control and traffic visibility do not require the routing add-ons to be in use.

Application Scenarios

Non-Powered Access Closet

Deployed where the 24 downlinks connect switches, routers, printers, or desktop equipment that draws no PoE, keeping the power budget out of scope for the switch order entirely.

Segmented Access Floor

Installed where VRF-lite, VXLAN, or LISP segmentation needs to start at the closet switch to keep tenant or department traffic separated before it reaches the rest of the campus fabric.

Advantage-Tier StackWise-160 Member

Used as a member in a StackWise-160 stack that standardizes on Network Advantage across the ring, extending routed access capacity without adding a second management plane.

  • Adding PoE+ capability, C9200-24P-A keeps the identical 128 Gbps switching capacity and modular uplink bay but steps up to the PWR-C6-600WAC power class for a 370W/740W PoE budget, a move that only pays off once some of the 24 ports need to power phones, cameras, or access points; C9200-24T-A stays the right fit while every downlink terminates non-powered gear.
  • C9200-48T-A doubles the data port count to 48 and raises switching capacity to 176 Gbps standalone while keeping the same Network Advantage tier and modular uplink bay, a step that only makes sense once the closet’s non-powered port demand is confirmed to run past 24 and toward the 48-port range.
  • C9200L-24T-4X-A matches the same 24 data ports, the same StackWise architecture family goal, and a comparable 125W power class, but it locks uplinks at a fixed 4x 1/10G SFP+ bank, halves stack bandwidth to StackWise-80, and drops stacked switching capacity to 208 Gbps, a trade that only makes sense once the uplink speed choice is already settled and the network-module bay’s flexibility to change uplink media later is not needed.
  • For deciding which SKU to order, settle the PoE requirement first, since only C9200-24P-A in this group adds a PoE budget; then size the non-powered port count against C9200-48T-A; and last decide whether the uplink media needs to stay open-ended, which is the line separating C9200-24T-A from the fixed-uplink C9200L-24T-4X-A at the same port count and power class.

Selection Guide

1. Powered Endpoint Requirement Routes To C9200-24P-A

When even a portion of the 24 downlink ports is confirmed to power phones, cameras, or access points, C9200-24P-A carries the identical modular-uplink hardware and Network Advantage tier on the larger PWR-C6-600WAC power class with a 370W PoE budget; staying on C9200-24T-A only holds while every port is confirmed to terminate non-powered equipment.

2. Data Port Count Growing Toward The 48-Port Tier

When a closet’s non-powered port count is expected to grow past 24 and toward the 48-port range, C9200-48T-A carries the same modular-uplink Advantage role and the identical 125W power class instead of forcing a second C9200-24T-A chassis into the same rack; staying on C9200-24T-A only holds while the closet’s data footprint is expected to stay near or under 24 ports.

3. Fixed Uplink Trade Against C9200L-24T-4X-A

C9200L-24T-4X-A delivers the same 24 data ports at a comparable power class with 4x 1/10G SFP+ uplinks fixed at the factory and StackWise-80 in place of StackWise-160; taking that configuration gives up the network-module bay’s ability to change uplink media later, so it only fits designs where the uplink speed is already locked in.

4. Subscription Term Choice Does Not Touch The Feature Set

An order for C9200-24T-A pairs with the Advantage 24-port subscription group, C9200-DNA-A-24 or C9200-DNX-A-24-3Y/5Y, while Cisco publishes no in-place PID to move the same hardware from Network Essentials to Network Advantage after the fact; the perpetual license baked into the -A suffix at order time is what unlocks EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, and VRF-lite/VXLAN segmentation at this closet, and picking a longer or shorter subscription term changes nothing about that feature boundary.

Ordering Checklist

Check Item

What to Confirm

Why It Matters

Exact license suffix

C9200-24T-A carries Network Advantage; the -E suffix on identical hardware carries Network Essentials

The perpetual Network Stack tier is set by the hardware PID and cannot be license-upgraded in place

Matching subscription tier

An Advantage-tier term subscription from the 24-port group, such as C9200-DNA-A-24 or C9200-DNX-A-24-3Y/5Y

Every Catalyst 9200 order requires a matching-tier Cisco DNA or Cisco Catalyst subscription under a mandatory Smart Account

Uplink module line item

One of C9200-NM-4G, C9200-NM-4X, or C9200-NM-BLANK is on the order

The switch must run with a module or blank installed in the uplink bay, and the mGig-only C9200-NM-2Y/C9200-NM-2Q modules do not apply to this model

No PoE assumption

Confirm the design does not expect any PoE budget from this model

The data-only C9200-24T-A ships with the 125W PWR-C6-125WAC supply and provides no PoE output at all

Stack kit inclusion

C9200-STACK-KIT plus stack members at the same license level

The kit is not included by default, and StackWise-160 members must share the license tier

Power cord selection

A country-specific CAB-TA cord rated for the 125W supply class (10A)

An under-rated or wrong-plug cord blocks power-up at installation

Software baseline

Cisco IOS XE Gibraltar 16.10.1 or later

16.10.1 is the introductory release for this model, and earlier releases cannot run it

Questions & Answers

  • What access role fits C9200-24T-A?

C9200-24T-A fits smaller data-only closets that need 24 non-PoE 1G copper ports, Network Advantage, modular uplinks, and stack growth.
  • Why choose C9200-24T-A instead of C9200-24T-E?

C9200-24T-A is selected when the same 24-port data hardware needs Network Advantage features rather than the Network Essentials level.
  • Does C9200-24T-A power endpoints?

C9200-24T-A does not provide PoE, so powered endpoints need injectors, local adapters, or a C9200-24P model designed for PoE+ access.
  • What uplink modules pair with C9200-24T-A?

    C9200-24T-A uses C9200 modular uplink options, so buyers match 4G, 4X, 2Y, or 2Q modules to 1G, 10G, 25G, or 40G aggregation.
  • Where does C9200-24T-A fit in a campus network?

C9200-24T-A fits smaller access closets that need 24 wired data ports, advanced software features, stacking, and flexible uplink migration.
  • How is C9200-24T-A different from C9300-24T-A?

C9200-24T-A is the Catalyst 9200 data access option with C9200 modules and StackWise-160, while C9300-24T-A belongs to the higher Catalyst 9300 family.
  • What ordering mistake affects C9200-24T-A?

C9200-24T-A does not define uplink speed by itself; the selected C9200 network module controls whether uplinks are 1G, 10G, 25G, or 40G.
  • What stack migration issue matters for C9200-24T-A?

C9200-24T-A stack migrations need matching software mode, consistent Network Advantage licensing, correct stack cables, and preplanned interface numbering.
