Key Features
Unlike the standard Essentials models, this unit ships with the Network Advantage license. This enables comprehensive Layer 3 routing features including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and IS-IS, making it suitable for network cores in smaller branches or routed access layers where dynamic routing protocols are required.
The switch includes four fixed 1 Gigabit SFP uplink ports. This configuration provides cost-effective connectivity for environments where existing cabling infrastructure supports 1G speeds, eliminating the need for expensive modular upgrades while maintaining reliable fiber connectivity to the aggregation layer.
Business continuity is ensured through support for dual field-replaceable power supplies (Cisco PWR-C5 Series). Additionally, the StackWise-80 architecture allows users to stack up to eight switches, managing them as a single entity with 80 Gbps of stacking bandwidth, providing redundancy and simplified management.
At the heart of the switch is the Cisco Unified Access Data Plane (UADP) 2.0 Mini ASIC. This programmable integrated circuit allows the switch to adapt to new technologies and protocols through software updates, extending the hardware’s operational lifespan and flexibility.
The device supports AES-128 MACsec encryption on all ports to secure data at the link layer. It also features Full Flexible NetFlow (FNF) for granular visibility into network traffic patterns and threat detection, a capability often reserved for higher-end platforms.
The C9200L Series supports Cisco DNA Center for automated provisioning and assurance. Even without a controller, it offers a modern WebUI for easy box-level management and supports Blue Beacon technology to physically identify the switch in a crowded rack during maintenance.
Application Scenarios
With its Network Advantage license supporting dynamic routing protocols like BGP and OSPF, this model is perfectly suited to act as the core switch for a small branch office, routing traffic directly between VLANs and the WAN edge router without needing an external gateway.
The combination of no PoE (reducing attack surface), fixed 1G optical uplinks, and comprehensive Layer 3 security features makes this model ideal for secure, air-gapped, or sensitive networks where strict data handling and MACsec encryption are mandatory.
For retail environments connecting non-powered devices like POS terminals and back-office PCs, this switch provides a reliable, long-lifecycle solution. The fixed configuration reduces mechanical failure points, while the compact depth fits easily into smaller retail wiring cabinets.

Selection Guide
- Requirement for Small-Site Routing
Select this model if your branch office is small (under 24 devices) but needs to perform complex routing tasks like BGP peering or MPLS termination. It saves you the cost of buying a dedicated router while handling all local switching. - Engineering Need for VRF Segmentation
If your security policy requires isolating different departments or guest traffic into separate virtual networks (VRFs) on the same hardware, this Network Advantage model is mandatory, as the Essentials version cannot support this feature. - Smart Budget for 1G Infrastructure
Choose this model if your site’s fiber cabling is limited to 1G speeds. It allows you to invest your budget in advanced software intelligence (Routing/Security) rather than paying for 10G hardware ports that you physically cannot use. - Rightsizing for Data Only
Designed for environments connecting only non-powered devices like desktops, printers, and servers. By forgoing PoE hardware, this model offers a significantly lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to the PoE variant (C9300L-24P-4G-A).
