C9200L-24P-4X-E Description

C9200L-24P-4X-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9200L fixed-uplink access switch carrying 24 PoE+ copper ports and four fixed 1/10G SFP+ uplink ports at the Network Essentials license tier. On this hardware, Network Essentials already covers Layer 2 switching, static routing, Routed Access with RIP, EIGRP Stub, and OSPF up to 1000 routes, plus PBR, PVLAN, VRRP, 802.1X, and MACsec-128, which is the feature set that most closet-level PoE+ deployments actually use. A default PWR-C5-600WAC power supply delivers a 370W PoE budget across the 24 ports, and a second supply of the same model doubles that to 740W. StackWise-80 stacking joins up to eight units into one management plane at 80 Gbps, and the fixed 4x10G SFP+ uplinks keep the uplink bill of materials down to an optics choice rather than a network-module selection. The same hardware is also sold as C9200L-24P-4X-A with Network Advantage for designs that need EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, or VRF-lite/VXLAN segmentation running on the switch itself; C9200L-24P-4X-E is the license-tier order for PoE+ access closets that route upstream and do not need those features locally.

Key Features

Routed Access Baseline Without An Advantage Subscription

Network Essentials already carries static routing and Routed Access with RIP, EIGRP Stub, and OSPF up to 1000 routes, which covers the routing depth most access-layer PoE+ closets use without paying for the Advantage tier.

802.1X And MACsec-128 Ship At The Essentials Tier

Port-based authentication and MACsec-128 link encryption are included at Network Essentials, so an access closet with standard endpoint authentication and link-encryption requirements does not need to step up to Advantage for those two controls.

Single Supply Covers Standard PoE+ Closet Load

The default PWR-C5-600WAC supply’s 370W budget covers a typical mixed IP-phone-and-AP closet across all 24 ports without requiring a second supply purchase at initial deployment.

Fixed 10G-Capable Uplinks Avoid A Module Order

The four fixed 1/10G SFP+ uplink ports remove the network-module PID decision that modular C9200 switches require, narrowing the uplink BOM to an SFP or SFP+ optic choice.

StackWise-80 Keeps Essentials-Tier Growth In One Management Plane

Up to eight C9200L-24P-4X-E units join the same StackWise-80 ring at 80 Gbps, so port-count growth at the Essentials tier does not add separate management points, as long as every member stays within the C9200L family.

SPAN/RSPAN And Sampled NetFlow Need No Advantage Upgrade

Port mirroring via SPAN/RSPAN and sampled NetFlow flow export are both part of the Network Essentials feature set on this hardware, so traffic-visibility and monitoring tooling can be attached at the access layer without an Advantage-tier license.

Application Scenarios

Access Closet Routing Upstream To A Distribution Switch

Deployed as a PoE+ access switch that hands routing decisions to an upstream distribution or core layer, relying on static routes or basic Routed Access rather than dynamic protocols running on the access switch itself.

Standard IP Phone And AP Power Delivery

Installed to power IP phones and PoE+ access points across 24 ports from the default 370W supply, in closets where device count stays within a single-supply PoE budget.

Authenticated Endpoint Access With Link Encryption

Used where 802.1X port authentication and MACsec-128 link encryption between the switch and connected devices are the security requirements, both of which are already part of the Essentials license.

  • C9200L-24P-4X-E and C9200L-24P-4X-A run on identical 24-port PoE+ hardware with the same 370W/740W PoE budget and the same 4x10G uplinks, so a project should move up to the Network Advantage C9200L-24P-4X-A only when the access switch itself needs to run EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, or VRF-lite/VXLAN segmentation rather than handing those functions to an upstream device.
  • Stepping up to C9200L-48P-4X-A instead of staying on the 24-port Essentials model changes two things at once, port count and license tier, doubling the PoE budget to 740W on a larger PWR-C5-1KWAC supply while also adding the Advantage feature set; that combination only makes sense when both the higher port count and the routing/segmentation features are needed together.
  • Against C9200L-24P-4G-A, the 4X-E model keeps the same 24-port PoE+ chassis but at Network Essentials instead of Advantage and with faster 1/10G uplinks instead of 1G-only; an Essentials-tier order that also needs 10G uplink headroom has no direct same-tier comparison in this group, since the 4G model only ships at Advantage in the cached ordering data.
  • Cisco’s ordering guide does not publish an in-place upgrade PID from Network Essentials to Network Advantage on this hardware, so for deciding which SKU to order, confirm the routing and segmentation requirement first; if that requirement can appear later in the project’s life, ordering C9200L-24P-4X-A up front avoids a full hardware re-order down the line.

Selection Guide

1. Where Essentials Routing Stops On This Hardware

C9200L-24P-4X-E covers Layer 2 switching, static routing, and Routed Access up to 1000 OSPF routes; an access layer that needs EIGRP, HSRP, IS-IS, or VRF-lite/VXLAN segmentation running on the switch itself needs the Network Advantage C9200L-24P-4X-A on the same hardware, since none of those features can be added to the Essentials PID later.

2. Plan For A Full Hardware Reorder If Advantage Becomes Necessary Later

Cisco does not offer a same-hardware upgrade PID from Network Essentials to Network Advantage, so a project that might need Advantage features within its lifecycle should weigh ordering C9200L-24P-4X-A from the start against the risk of a second hardware purchase if C9200L-24P-4X-E later proves insufficient.

3. Second Power Supply Needed Only At Full 24-Port PoE+ Density

The default PWR-C5-600WAC supply’s 370W budget covers typical mixed-endpoint closets; a design expecting all 24 ports to carry PoE+ devices simultaneously at or near 30W each should add a second PWR-C5-600WAC to reach the 740W expanded budget rather than order the Essentials hardware alone.

4. 48-Port Model Changes Port Count And License Together

C9200L-48P-4X-A raises both port count to 48 and the license tier to Advantage in a single step; use it only when the deployment needs both a larger PoE+ port count and the Advantage feature set, since it does not exist as a 48-port Essentials counterpart in the confirmed comparison set.

Ordering Checklist

Check Item

What to Confirm

Why It Matters

Exact license suffix

C9200L-24P-4X-E carries Network Essentials; C9200L-24P-4X-A carries Network Advantage on identical hardware

Ordering the wrong suffix locks in the wrong license tier on hardware that cannot be license-upgraded in place

Matching subscription tier

Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA term subscription (3, 5, or 7 years) must match the Essentials hardware tier

A mismatched subscription tier can stall activation under the mandatory Smart Account

Second power supply for full PoE load

Confirm whether a second PWR-C5-600WAC is needed to reach the 740W expanded PoE budget

Under-provisioning power leaves no headroom once PoE+ device count approaches full port density

Stack kit inclusion

C9200L-STACK-KIT is not included by default and must be ordered separately

Omitting the stack kit blocks StackWise-80 stacking at installation

Uplink optics

Confirm 1G SFP or 10G SFP+ optics against the target platform’s supported list before order release

The fixed 4x10G uplink ports accept either media, but the wrong optic class can be rejected by the host port
