C1300-12XS Description
The C1300-12XS is a Cisco Catalyst 1300 Series fixed managed Layer 3 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch for small offices that aggregate SFP+ uplinks and servers at 10G. The switch has 10 SFP+ ports and 2 copper/SFP+ combo ports, 240 Gbps of switching capacity, a 3 MB packet buffer and no PoE output. Dynamic routing is RIP v2 with policy-based routing, and stacking joins only C1300 Family 2 units, up to 8 per stack.

Key Features
Ten fixed SFP+ slots make fiber, twinax and active optical cable the main media. Each of the two combo ports pairs a 10G copper port with an SFP+ slot, and only one of the pair is active at a time. All of these ports also run at 1 Gigabit, so existing 1G devices can attach.
Up to eight C1300 Family 2 units join into one system under a single IP address, with hardware failover and link aggregation across members. Each unit needs at least two SFP+ ports set as stack ports, and those ports stop carrying user traffic.
IPv4 and IPv6 routing runs at wire speed, with up to 7,168 routes and 256 IP interfaces. Dynamic routing stops at RIP v2 and policy-based routing, since OSPF v2 and v3 run only on C1300X models.
802.1X, web-based authentication, DHCP snooping, IP Source Guard and Dynamic ARP Inspection decide which endpoints join and block spoofed addresses. Up to 2048 ACL rules in ingress and egress directions separate office traffic from guest traffic.
Worst-case draw is 24.3W at 110V and 26.1W at 220V, with 9.9W at idle on 110V and 132.39 BTU/hr of heat. Those are the numbers for sizing UPS runtime and cooling in a small closet or open office.
The Cisco Business Dashboard probe runs on the switch, so no separate hardware or virtual machine is needed onsite. Network Plug and Play and dual firmware images cover rollout and upgrades.
Application Scenarios
A small branch office terminates SFP+ uplinks from its access switches on the 10 fixed SFP+ ports, and the two combo ports take a copper-connected device where no fiber run exists.
Beside a few servers or storage arrays, the switch connects hosts over SFP+ direct-attach copper or active optical cables up to 10 m, and iSCSI traffic optimization keeps storage flows ahead of other traffic.
Outside a wiring closet, in a retail back room, open-plan office or classroom, the compact 268 mm chassis sits on a shelf or desk and links nearby fiber-connected devices.

C1300-12XS and C1300-24XS use the same SFP+ plus combo layout, but C1300-24XS doubles it to 20 SFP+ and 4 combo ports at 480 Gbps with an 8 MB buffer in a 444.3 mm chassis, while C1300-12XS has 10 SFP+ and 2 combo ports at 240 Gbps with 3 MB in 268 mm. A plan with more than 2 copper hosts moves to C1300-16XTS, with 8 copper and 8 SFP+ ports at 320 Gbps, and one with more than 8 copper hosts moves to C1300-12XT-2X, with 12 copper and 2 SFP+ ports at 280 Gbps. C1300-12XS draws the least of the four, 24.3W worst case at 110V against 33.36W to 49.46W. PoE and stack family do not separate the four, since all are data-only C1300 Family 2 models.
Ordering Checklist
- SFP+ modules and cables: Match the 10 SFP+ ports and 2 combo ports to SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-ER or SFP-10G-T-X modules, or to SFP-H10GB-CU1M or SFP-10G-AOC1M cables. A module outside the supported list leaves a 10G link unusable.
- Stack links: Choose at least 2 SFP+ ports per unit as stack ports in a C1300 Family 2 stack, and add SFP-H10GB-CU1M, SFP-H10GB-CU3M or SFP-H10GB-CU5M cables or 10G optics; SFP-10G-T-X RJ45 modules are not recommended for stacking. A link without a cable or optic stays down.
- Rack bracket kit: Add RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K=, the 19-inch bracket for 8-, 12- and 16-port models; only 24- and 48-port models include 19-inch brackets.
- Power cord: Keep the included power cord or select NO-POWER-CORD, which ships the order without a cord.
