C1300-48MGP-4X Description
The C1300-48MGP-4X is a Cisco Catalyst 1300 Series fixed managed Layer 3 multigigabit PoE+ switch for office floors that mix gigabit phones with 2.5G wireless access points. The switch has 32 10/100/1000 and 16 2.5G PoE+ ports, 4 10G SFP+ uplinks, a 740W PoE budget and 224 Gbps of switching capacity. Stacking is limited to C1300 Family 1 models, and OSPF v2 and v3 run only on C1300X models.

Product Performance
Key Features
Each of the 48 ports is rated 30W PoE+, 32 at 10/100/1000 and 16 at 2.5G, all drawing on one 740W budget. Phones and cameras sit on the gigabit ports and faster endpoints on the 2.5G ports, each powered over one cable.
The four SFP+ slots carry the 10G uplinks, and stack ports are configured from the same slots, after which they carry no user traffic. Up to 8 C1300 Family 1 units join one stack under a single IP address with hardware failover.
The 3 MB buffer is shared dynamically across all ports, and 224 Gbps of nonblocking switching capacity serves the 48 ports and four uplinks at wire speed.
Wire-speed IPv4 and IPv6 routing, RIP v2, policy-based routing, and a built-in DHCP server and relay let the switch route between VLANs and hand out addresses at a small site. Dynamic routing here stops at RIP v2.
With PoE loaded, worst-case draw is 883.4W at 110V and 883W at 220V, against 92.4W and 93.6W without it. Branch circuits, UPS capacity and cooling are sized from the loaded figure, which dissipates 3012.39 BTU/hr.
The Cisco Business Dashboard probe runs on the switch itself, with no separate probe hardware or virtual machine. An external Bluetooth dongle in the USB Type C port gives a laptop or tablet CLI and GUI access.
Application Scenarios
In an office floor closet, the switch powers 2.5G wireless access points from its 16 mGig PoE+ ports while the 32 gigabit ports feed phones and desktops.
A branch closet can run cameras and door readers on the 30W PoE+ ports, all drawing from one 740W budget, with traffic leaving over the 10G SFP+ uplinks.
When a floor adds ports, up to eight C1300 Family 1 units operate as one switch with a single IP address and hardware failover.

C1300-48MGP-4X and C1300-48FP-4X both have 48 PoE+ ports on a 740W budget, but C1300-48MGP-4X makes 16 of them 2.5G and doubles the packet buffer to 3 MB, where C1300-48FP-4X runs all 48 at 10/100/1000 with 1.5 MB. Floors with up to 24 powered endpoints, none above 30W and drawing no more than 375W together, can use C1300-24MGP-4X, which keeps 8 2.5G ports and cuts worst-case draw with PoE from 883.4W to 459W at 110V. Endpoints that need 5G links or 60W PoE++ move to C1300X-48NGU-4X, which has 8 such ports, OSPF v2 and v3 and 240 Gbps, but stacks only in the C1300X Family.
PoE Power Planning

Planning Item |
Value or Check |
|---|---|
|
PoE power budget |
740W shared across all PoE-capable ports |
|
PoE-capable ports |
48 ports (32 x 10/100/1000 and 16 x 2.5G), each listed at 30W PoE+ |
|
Budget against port ceiling |
48 ports at 30W would total 1440W, so add up the real endpoint draws and keep the sum within 740W; at the full 30W class, 24 ports draw 720W and a 25th would reach 750W |
|
PoE standards |
802.3at PoE+, 802.3af PoE, and Cisco pre-standard (legacy) PoE; match each endpoint to a supported class |
|
Power supply |
Internal universal supply, 100-240V 50-60 Hz |
|
Schedule and reboot behavior |
Time-based PoE turns PoE power on or off on a user-defined schedule, and Persistent PoE keeps power flowing to endpoints while the switch reboots |
Ordering Checklist
- SFP+ modules: Add modules or cables for the 4 x 10G SFP+ uplinks from the Catalyst 1300 list, such as SFP-10G-SR (26 to 400 m multimode), SFP-10G-LR (10 km single-mode), SFP-10G-T-X (30 m over CAT6A/CAT7 or better) or SFP-H10GB-CU3M (3 m copper coax).
- Stack interconnect: Add 10G links for the stack ports of a stacked unit, preferably direct attach cables such as SFP-H10GB-CU1M, and use C1300 Family 1 members only. Stacking needs at least 2 stack ports per unit, and units from different families cannot stack.
- Power cord: Keep the power cord included in the box, or select NO-POWER-CORD, which ships the switch without a cord.
