CW9178I-RTG Description
The CW9178I-RTG is a Cisco Wireless 9178 Series Wi-Fi 7 indoor access point with internal omnidirectional antennas for high-density enterprise spaces. The access point runs 4x4 radios on 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz and adds a second 4x4 5 GHz radio in quad-radio mode for up to 24 Gbps, with two 10G Multigigabit uplinks that are link and power redundant. Full operation draws up to 47W on 802.3bt Class 6 UPOE.

Application Scenarios
In lecture halls and large training rooms, quad-radio mode brings a second 4×4 5 GHz cell online so one ceiling-mounted access point absorbs peak client counts.
Above logistics and production floors, the UWB, BLE 5.3 and GNSS radios feed asset location and wayfinding while the tri-band radios carry client Wi-Fi 7 traffic.
In a hospital corridor cabled to two switches, the access point stays online when one of its two 10G Multigigabit links or power feeds fails.

CW9178I-RTG is the only model in this group with a second 4×4 5 GHz radio, which lifts peak 802.11be PHY to 24 Gbps and comes with two 10G Multigigabit uplinks and a 47W 802.3bt Class 6 feed, while CW9176I-RTG stays at 18 Gbps tri-radio with one uplink and 39W Class 5. Floors with ordinary client density and a single cable drop per access point are served by CW9176I-RTG, which joins controllers from the same Cisco IOS XE 17.15.2. Sites that need no UWB or GNSS location and no uplink above 5G can use CW9174I-RTG at 37W, though it runs 2.4 GHz at 2×2 and needs Cisco IOS XE 17.18.2. Precision location keeps a site on CW9178I-RTG or CW9176I-RTG.
Ordering Checklist
- Power source: Use a switch port supplying 802.3bt Class 6 UPOE at 47W, or a Cisco CW-INJ-8 power injector. 802.3at PoE+ limits the access point to 25.5W with reduced radio and link speeds.
- Wireless subscription: Add LIC-CW-E (Essentials) or LIC-CW-A (Advantage) per access point, unless the license is opted out at purchase. Full functionality needs an active subscription.
- Ordering form: Order CW9178I-RTG for Ready To Go single units or CW9178I-CFG for configure-to-order multi-packs; the two PIDs are the same hardware sold in different ordering forms.
- Supported controllers: Use Catalyst 9800 Series controllers such as C9800-40-K9 and C9800-80-K9, CW9800M and CW9800H1, on Cisco IOS XE 17.15.2 or later. The access point joins only these controllers or Meraki cloud management.
