The N3K-C3524P-XL is a Cisco Nexus 3524-XL data center switch from the Nexus 3500 platform, built as a 1RU top-of-rack switch for low-latency 10G server networks. The switch enables 24 SFP+ ports at 1 or 10 Gbps, with 480 Gbps of switching capacity, 360 mpps of forwarding and 16 GB each of system memory and bootflash. The chassis is built for 48 ports, and the extra 24 are unlocked with the N3548-24P-UPG= license.

Product Performance
Key Features
The hardware has 48 SFP+ positions, but only 24 run until the N3548-24P-UPG= license is applied. Port count can change later without a hardware swap.
The XL models pair a 2.5 GHz CPU with 16 GB of system memory and 16 GB of bootflash, against 4 GB and 4 GB on the X models. That headroom supports the NX-OS Data Management Engine model.
Switching capacity is 480 Gbps and forwarding is 360 mpps, and traffic runs at line rate on all enabled ports for both layers. Frames up to 9216 bytes can be configured.
Airflow direction depends on the fans and power supplies installed, which are color-coded blue for exhaust and red for intake. All four fans and both supplies must face the same way.
Two redundant power supplies and four individual fans with 3+1 redundancy can each be replaced while the switch runs. Typical draw is 102W and maximum draw is 193W.
The default system license covers Layer 2. Routing needs the N3548-BAS1K9 base license, with N3524-LAN1K9 for LAN Enterprise features and N3548-ALGK9 for Algo Boost.
Application Scenarios
In a trading or HPC rack, the switch connects 10G servers on its SFP+ ports and forwards Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic at line rate on every enabled port.
A data center row that starts with 24 servers per rack can add the next 24 ports through the N3548-24P-UPG= license, without replacing the switch.
Where racks are cabled for either port-side exhaust or port-side intake, the switch takes matching fans and power supplies so its airflow follows the aisle layout.

N3K-C3524P-XL enables 24 of the 48 SFP+ ports in the Nexus 3500 chassis, giving 480 Gbps and 360 mpps, while N3K-C3548P-XL has all 48 ports on the order line with 960 Gbps and 720 mpps. A rack that needs 48 active ports on day one should order N3K-C3548P-XL; an installed N3K-C3524P-XL can be expanded to 48 ports later with the N3548-24P-UPG= license. The older N3K-C3524P-10GX has the same 24-port layout but only 4 GB of system memory and 4 GB of bootflash against 16 GB and 16 GB, so designs that rely on the XL memory profile should stay on an XL model.
Ordering Checklist
- Port license: Add N3548-24P-UPG= if all 48 SFP+ ports are needed. The chassis is hardware-built for 48 ports but only 24 are enabled without the license.
- Airflow direction: Order fans NXA-FAN-30CFM-F with N2200-PAC-400W or N2200-PDC-400W for port-side exhaust, or NXA-FAN-30CFM-B with N2200-PAC-400W-B or N3K-PDC-350W-B for port-side intake. Fans and power supplies of opposite directions push air against each other, and the blue or red handle colors are the only visual check.
- Layer 3 license: Add N3548-BAS1K9 for routing; N3524-LAN1K9 adds LAN Enterprise and needs the Base license; N3548-ALGK9 is for Algo Boost. The default system license covers Layer 2 only.
- Power supply type: Choose AC (N2200-PAC-400W or -B) or DC (N2200-PDC-400W or N3K-PDC-350W-B), plus the AC cord for the destination country. DC supplies ship without a power cord outside Argentina, Brazil and Japan, and AC cord PIDs differ by country.
- Rack-mount kit: Add N3K-C3064-ACC-KIT= or NXK-ACC-KIT-1RU for a 19-inch rack. Neither kit includes the eight 10-32 or 12-24 mounting screws, and a non-19-inch rack needs a separate bracket kit.
