The N3K-C3548P-XL is a Cisco Nexus 3548-XL data center switch from the Nexus 3500 platform, built as a 1RU top-of-rack switch for low-latency 10G server access, trading and HPC networks. The switch has 48 fixed SFP+ ports at 1 or 10 Gbps, 960 Gbps of switching capacity, 720 mpps of forwarding and 16 GB each of system memory and bootflash. All 48 ports are enabled without an upgrade license.

Product Performance
Key Features
All 48 SFP+ ports run at 1 or 10 Gbps with no upgrade license. The same chassis in 24-port form needs the N3548-24P-UPG= license to reach this count.
The XL models pair a faster 2.5 GHz CPU with 16 GB of system memory and 16 GB of bootflash. The X models carry 4 GB and 4 GB.
Switching capacity is 960 Gbps and forwarding is 720 mpps, with Layer 2 and Layer 3 traffic at line rate on all ports. MTU can be set up to 9216 bytes.
Port-side exhaust uses the blue-handled fans and supplies, and port-side intake uses the red-handled ones. Mixing directions in one chassis defeats the rack airflow plan.
Two hot-swappable power supplies and four individual fans with 3+1 redundancy keep the switch running through a single part failure. Typical draw is 112W and maximum is 213W.
Layer 2 is built in, while routing needs the N3548-BAS1K9 base license. N3548-LAN1K9 adds LAN Enterprise features on top of it, and N3548-ALGK9 adds Algo Boost.
Application Scenarios
In a top-of-rack position, the switch connects up to 48 servers over SFP+ at 10G, with line-rate Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding on every port.
Latency-sensitive clusters use the switch as a flat 1/10G access layer, where its 960 Gbps of capacity and 720 mpps of forwarding keep all ports at line rate.
Racks that exhaust hot air at the port side or draw cold air in at the port side can run the switch with fans and power supplies chosen for that direction.

N3K-C3548P-XL has all 48 SFP+ ports on the order line at 960 Gbps and 720 mpps, while N3K-C3524P-XL enables 24 ports at 480 Gbps and 360 mpps. A rack that only needs 24 active ports can start on N3K-C3524P-XL and expand to 48 later with the N3548-24P-UPG= license, so N3K-C3548P-XL fits designs that need all 48 ports from the first purchase. N3K-C3548P-10GX has the same 48 ports and throughput but only 4 GB of system memory and 4 GB of bootflash against 16 GB and 16 GB, so choose an XL model when the 16 GB profile is required.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow direction: Order fans NXA-FAN-30CFM-F with N2200-PAC-400W or N2200-PDC-400W for port-side exhaust, or NXA-FAN-30CFM-B with N2200-PAC-400W-B or N3K-PDC-350W-B for port-side intake. Fans and power supplies of opposite directions push air against each other, and the blue or red handle colors are the only visual check.
- Layer 3 license: Add N3548-BAS1K9 for routing; N3548-LAN1K9 adds LAN Enterprise and needs the Base license; N3548-ALGK9 is for Algo Boost. The default system license covers Layer 2 only.
- Power supply type: Choose AC (N2200-PAC-400W or -B) or DC (N2200-PDC-400W or N3K-PDC-350W-B), plus the AC cord for the destination country. DC supplies ship without a power cord outside Argentina, Brazil and Japan, and AC cord PIDs differ by country.
- Rack-mount kit: Add N3K-C3064-ACC-KIT= or NXK-ACC-KIT-1RU for a 19-inch rack. Neither kit includes the eight 10-32 or 12-24 mounting screws, and a non-19-inch rack needs a separate bracket kit.
