FPR2130-NGFW-K9 Description
FPR2130-NGFW-K9 is a Cisco Firepower 2130 NGFW firewall appliance in the Firepower 2100 Series for firewall and threat defense deployments that need a 1RU hardware platform with built-in copper and fiber connectivity. The appliance runs as a Firepower Threat Defense / NGFW platform and combines twelve 10M/100M/1GBASE-T RJ-45 data interfaces, four fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports, one front network module bay, a 400W AC power supply shipped with the unit, and Firepower 2130 performance levels that include 5.4 Gbps NGFW throughput and 2 million concurrent sessions with AVC.

Key Features
Cisco identifies FPR2130-NGFW-K9 as the Firepower 2130 appliance PID for the NGFW software role, separate from the ASA orderable PID on the same hardware model.
The 2130 platform provides twelve copper Gigabit data interfaces and four fixed 1/10G SFP+ interfaces, so the fiber handoff is not the 1G SFP layout used by the 2110 and 2120 models.
One front network module bay lets the BOM add Cisco-listed 1G SFP, 10G SFP+, copper bypass, or 10G fail-to-wire module options when the base interface count is not enough.
The 2130 row gives higher FW + AVC, IPS, TLS, session, new-connection, VPN throughput, and VPN peer values than the 2120 row while staying below the 2140 capacity level.
Cisco documents a shipped 400W AC power supply, optional redundant AC or DC power, and a hot-swappable fan tray for Firepower 2130 and 2140 platforms.
Threat Defense uses Smart Software Licensing with the Base license included automatically and optional Threat, Malware, URL, and RA VPN licensing handled through the Smart Account process.
Application Scenarios
Use FPR2130-NGFW-K9 where the approved firewall design names Threat Defense and the uplink plan needs fixed SFP+ ports instead of the 1G SFP ports on lower 2100 appliances.
Place this SKU in a perimeter or data-center edge BOM when the firewall must retain a 1RU Firepower 2100 footprint and reserve one module bay for additional Cisco-supported interfaces.
Keep the NGFW PID when licenses, images, and management tools are tied to Threat Defense; projects that remain on ASA should use the separate FPR2130-ASA-K9 identity.

- In a FPR2130-NGFW-K9 vs FPR2130-ASA-K9 comparison, the hardware model, fixed ports, module bay, and power design match, but the current SKU follows the Threat Defense / NGFW order path while the ASA PID follows the Cisco ASA software path.
- The FPR2130-NGFW-K9 difference from FPR2120-NGFW-K9 is the 2130 row: fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports, one network module bay, 5.4 Gbps FW + AVC + IPS throughput, 2 million AVC sessions, and the FPR2130 TMC license PID.
- For FPR2130-NGFW-K9 vs FPR2140-NGFW-K9, the comparison remains in the modular 2100 NGFW class, but the 2140 raises firewall, NGFW, IPS, session, VPN, and default power-supply values.
- Buyers deciding which model to choose should confirm NGFW versus ASA first, then compare SFP speed, module bay requirement, Threat Defense sizing values, TMC PID, and power design.
Selection Guide
1. Keep the NGFW software role explicit
Choose FPR2130-NGFW-K9 when the deployment standard requires Cisco Firepower Threat Defense on a Firepower 2130 appliance rather than the ASA image.
2. Size against the 2130 Threat Defense row
Use this SKU when the design file points to 5.4 Gbps FW + AVC + IPS throughput, 2 million AVC sessions, 30000 new connections per second, or 7500 VPN peers.
3. Treat SFP+ and the module bay as order drivers
Move from FPR2120-NGFW-K9 to this SKU when the cabling plan requires fixed SFP+ interfaces or when the BOM needs a Cisco-supported network module.
4. Lock licensing and power before quote release
Match the FPR2130 TMC term to the Smart Account plan and decide whether the site needs the included single AC supply, a second AC supply, or a DC power option.
Ordering Checklist
|
Review Area |
Required Decision |
Source-Based Risk |
|---|---|---|
|
Exact appliance PID |
Confirm FPR2130-NGFW-K9 instead of FPR2130-ASA-K9 |
Cisco publishes separate NGFW and ASA PIDs for the same Firepower 2130 hardware model |
|
Threat Defense licensing |
Attach the needed Threat, Malware, URL, or RA VPN licensing plan to the Smart Account workflow |
Optional security services are not the same as the automatically included Base license |
|
TMC term |
Select L-FPR2130T-TMC-1Y, L-FPR2130T-TMC-3Y, or L-FPR2130T-TMC-5Y when TMC is required |
A 2120 or 2140 TMC PID does not match the 2130 appliance row |
|
Fixed SFP+ optics |
Match the four fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports to Cisco-supported transceivers or cables |
The 2130 fixed fiber ports differ from the 1G SFP ports on 2110 and 2120 models |
|
Network module |
Choose the required Cisco 1G SFP, 10G SFP+, or fail-to-wire network module if base ports are insufficient |
The module is a separate interface planning item even though the chassis has one bay |
|
Power design |
Decide between one 400W AC supply, dual AC, or a DC power plan with regional power cords |
Cisco lists different power designs for 2120, 2130, and 2140 appliances |
