IEM-3000-8TM Description
The IEM-3000-8TM is a Cisco Industrial Ethernet 3000 Series expansion module that adds eight 10/100 TX copper ports to IE-3000-4TC and IE-3000-8TC switches. The module draws up to 2.8 W and measures 3.5 x 5.8 x 4.4 in., so it mounts beside the host switch on a DIN rail. The module cannot run on its own and is not hot-swappable, so the host switch must be powered off to add or remove it.

Application Scenarios
A machine control cabinet built on an IE-3000-4TC can add eight Fast Ethernet ports for PLCs, HMIs and sensors by attaching the module. One module takes the switch from 4 to 12 Fast Ethernet ports.
A production line already running an IE-3000-8TC can add a second copper expansion module as more devices arrive. Two IEM-3000-8TM modules take the host to 24 Fast Ethernet ports.

IEM-3000-8TM adds eight 10/100BASE-T copper ports at 2.8W, while IEM-3000-8FM adds eight 100BASE-FX fiber ports at 10.1W; all three modules in this group are eight-port, cannot run standalone and are not hot-swappable. Fiber runs to field devices call for IEM-3000-8FM, and 100M SFP optics chosen per site move the order to IEM-3000-8SM at 12.2W. Because of power limits an IE 3000 switch cannot take two IEM-3000-8SM modules, so a two-module build that needs SFP ports pairs IEM-3000-8SM with a copper or fiber module. Copper-only builds reach 12 Fast Ethernet ports on IE-3000-4TC and 16 on IE-3000-8TC with one IEM-3000-8TM.
