The C1200-16T-2G is a Cisco Catalyst 1200 Series fixed managed access switch for small-office and branch wiring closets that need data-only copper ports. The switch has 16 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports, two Gigabit SFP uplinks and 36 Gbps of switching capacity in a fanless chassis, with no PoE budget. Layer 3 is limited to static routing, with up to 32 static routes and 16 IP interfaces, and the platform specifies no dynamic routing protocols or stacking.

Key Features
All 16 RJ-45 ports are 10/100/1000 data ports with no PoE output, so powered endpoints such as phones and access points need a separate power source.
Both uplinks are SFP cages that stay empty until optics are fitted. Supported modules include GLC-SX-MMD for 550 m multimode and GLC-LH-SMD for 10 km single-mode, and GLC-TE adds a 100 m copper handoff.
The chassis has no fan and dissipates 37.5 BTU/hr at worst-case system power, which suits shelves and small cabinets where noise matters.
Power comes from an internal supply rated 100 to 240V at 50 to 60 Hz. Worst-case system draw is 10.8W at 110V and 11.0W at 220V, so the switch needs no external adapter.
With up to 255 active VLANs, 32 static routes and 16 IP interfaces, the switch routes between VLANs at wire speed instead of sending that traffic to a separate router.
The 268 x 272 x 44 mm enclosure weighs 1.78 kg and is rack-mountable, so it fits a desk, shelf or cabinet without a full-depth rack.
Application Scenarios
In a small office, the switch connects 16 desktop PCs, printers and file servers over Gigabit copper and reaches the upstream switch through an SFP uplink.
A back-office room or test lab can use the fanless chassis on a shelf or in a small cabinet, where the 16 data ports serve workstations and bench equipment without fan noise.
At a branch site, the two SFP cages carry the link to a fiber run or a copper SFP while the 16 ports feed local endpoints, with VLANs keeping staff and guest traffic separate.

C1200-16T-2G is the data-only 16-port model of this group: C1200-16P-2G has the same 16 copper ports, 2 Gigabit SFP uplinks and 36 Gbps of switching but adds a 120W PoE+ budget, so closets that power phones, access points or cameras should order C1200-16P-2G. C1200-8T-E-2G halves the copper count to 8, uses 2 combo uplinks and 20 Gbps of switching, and runs from an external AC supply, which suits sites that need only 8 data ports. When the closet needs 24 copper ports and 4 SFP uplinks, C1200-24T-4G raises switching to 56 Gbps in a 445 mm wide chassis. Catalyst 1200 has no license tier, so none of these moves involves a software upgrade.
Ordering Checklist
- Uplink SFP modules: Add a module from Cisco’s Catalyst 1200 list for 1G ports, such as GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-TE or MGBSX1. The SFP uplink cages are empty on the switch and only the listed modules are supported.
- Rack-mount bracket: Add RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= for the 16-port chassis. Only 24-port and 48-port models ship with the 19-inch bracket.
