CP-8800-A-KEM Description

The CP-8800-A-KEM is a Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series key expansion module for reception and call-coverage desks that need more line and feature buttons than the phone face provides. Charcoal modules attach up to two per CP-8851-K9, for as many as 66 line buttons, and up to three per CP-8861-K9, for as many as 113. The module draws power from the host phone, so two modules on a CP-8851-K9 need Cisco Power Cube 4, and the CP-8811-K9, CP-8841-K9 and CP-8845-K9 do not accept it.

Application Scenarios

Reception And Attendant Desks

A front-desk or attendant position on a CP-8861-K9 can carry up to three modules, which puts extension, speed-dial and shared-line buttons for the staff it covers within reach of one desk.

Assistant Desk With Shared Lines

An assistant covering executives or a small team on a CP-8851-K9 can place the shared lines of the people covered on up to two modules, so incoming calls are answered from one phone.

Two-Module Desks On Power Cube 4

In a closet where PoE alone cannot carry a CP-8851-K9 with two modules, the desk runs from Cisco Power Cube 4 and a country cord, which keeps both modules working beside the phone.

CP-8800-A-KEM is the Charcoal key expansion module listed with the audio phones CP-8851-K9 and CP-8861-K9, while CP-8800-V-KEM is the module listed for the 8865 video phone, and Cisco’s data sheets do not say whether the two PIDs can be swapped. CP-8865-K9 is a phone, not a module, and it takes up to three KEMs, so desks standardized on it order CP-8800-V-KEM. The host phone sets the quantity: CP-8851-K9 accepts up to two modules and CP-8861-K9 up to three. CP-8811-K9, CP-8841-K9 and CP-8845-K9 do not support KEM at all, so those desks need a different phone before any module is ordered.

Ordering Checklist

  • Host phone: Pair with CP-8851-K9, CP-8851NR-K9 or CP-8861-K9, the phones whose ordering tables list CP-8800-A-KEM=. A module bought for another phone model has no valid host.
  • 8865 video phones: Order CP-8800-V-KEM= for CP-8865-K9 and CP-8865NR-K9, as their own data sheet specifies. The audio-phone PID would be ordered for a phone that lists a different one.
  • Power for two modules: Add CP-PWR-CUBE-4= plus a CP-PWR-CORD country cord for CP-8851-K9 with two KEMs. PoE alone cannot power a second module on an 8851, so the desk fails after install.
  • Wall mounting: Order CP-8800-A-KEM-WMK= as the spare wall-mount kit that includes one KEM, and CP-8800-WMK= as the phone wall mount. The two kits are easy to swap, leaving either the module or the mount missing.
