DP-9871-K9 and DP-9861-K9 share the same Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, KEM rules and built-in ThousandEyes Endpoint Agent, and are separated by the input model: DP-9871-K9 runs a 1280 x 720 touchscreen with no line keys and 128 lines, while DP-9861-K9 has 10 physical line keys on an 800 x 480 display with 130 lines. Desks that rely on hard line keys, or attendant roles near the 130-line ceiling, move to DP-9861-K9. Fully cabled desks that need only 6 line keys and 46 lines can use DP-9851-K9, which has no radios, no ThousandEyes agent and one KEM at most. Sites that bar RF transmitters need the No Radio build DP-9871NR-K9.

Ordering Checklist

  • Power source: Supply PoE Class 3 (IEEE 802.3af/at) at the access port, or add the regional Cisco Power Adapter 3 PID such as CP-PWR-ADPT-3-NA= or CP-PWR-ADPT-3-EU=. DP-9871-K9 ships without a power supply, so a non-PoE port with no adapter on the order leaves the phone unpowered.
  • Call platform: Use Cisco Unified CM 12.5 or later for on-premises registration, plus any device package the CUCM release needs. An older or unpatched CUCM release does not register the phone.
  • Key expansion: Add DP-9800-KEM= modules, with one on PoE Class 3 and up to three on Cisco Power Adapter 3. The adapter is a separate line item, so a multi-module build ordered without it has no power path.
  • Wall mounting: Add DP-9800-WMK= for the phone, or DP-9800-WMK-88ADP= to reuse an existing 8800 Series wall position; the mount is not part of the phone order.

Questions & Answers

  • What type of touchscreen phone is DP-9871-K9?

DP-9871-K9 is the Cisco Desk Phone 9871, a touch-driven Desk Phone 9800 Series endpoint for assigned desks and shared seating. It combines high line capacity, Gigabit pass-through, wireless connectivity, and Webex-integrated features.
  • How many lines does the DP-9871-K9 touchscreen manage?

DP-9871-K9 manages up to 128 lines and programmable keys without physical line keys. Call handling uses its backlit 5-inch color touchscreen at 1280x720 with a single Home key.
  • Does DP-9871-K9 support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?

Yes, DP-9871-K9 supports dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2. It can serve desks without a wired LAN drop while still offering a 2-port 10/100/1000BASE-T switch when cabling is available.
  • How does local power change DP-9871-K9 expansion capacity?

DP-9871-K9 supports 1x 9800 KEM on PoE Class 3 and up to 3 with Cisco Power Adapter 3. A two- or three-module attendant build therefore needs the separately ordered regional local-power adapter.
  • What is the main interface difference between DP-9871-K9 and DP-9861-K9?

DP-9871-K9 uses touchscreen operation without physical line keys, while DP-9861-K9 retains 10 physical keys. Their wireless and multi-KEM capabilities are similar, so the buyer is primarily choosing touchscreen or button-driven call handling.
  • How do platform limits affect DP-9871-K9 line capacity?

DP-9871-K9 has a device capacity of 128 lines and programmable keys, but Webex Calling and open SIP registrations cap the endpoint at 16 lines. The registration platform therefore overrides the larger touchscreen capacity.
  • Which call-control systems support DP-9871-K9?

DP-9871-K9 supports CUCM 12.5 or later, Webex Calling, Webex Dedicated Instance, Cisco BroadWorks, and third-party cloud calling. Some CUCM releases also require an appropriate device package before the phone can register.
  • When is DP-9871-K9 the wrong 9800 Series choice?

DP-9871-K9 is the wrong choice when users require physical line keys or when RF policy prohibits radios. Choose DP-9861-K9 for 10 physical keys, DP-9871NR-K9 for a radio-free touchscreen model, or DP-9851-K9 for a wired role with more modest line scale.
