The N9K-C92160YC-X is a Cisco Nexus 9200 Series 1RU fixed data center switch for top-of-rack server access in 25G fabrics. The switch has 48 1/10/25G SFP+ downlink ports and six QSFP uplink ports, four of them 100G capable, with 3.2 Tbps of bandwidth and over 2.5 Bpps of forwarding. The default software image covers Layer 2 features, and Layer 3 IP unicast and multicast need the separate Enhanced L3 license.

Product Performance
Key Features
The 48 SFP+ downlink ports support 1G, 10G and 25G, so a rack can mix older 10G servers with 25G hosts on one switch. At 25G the ports use FC-FEC, and direct-attach cables reach 3 m.
In the default mode the QSFP ports run as four 40G and two 100G, and the second mode gives four 100G. Ports 50 and 52 can also break out into 4x10G or 4x25G.
The fixed 1RU chassis switches 3.2 Tbps and forwards over 2.5 Bpps. A 20 MB shared buffer sits behind the 48 downlinks.
Two supplies fit in a 1+1 layout, as 650W AC, 930W DC or 1200W AC/HVAC/HVDC, and both must be the same type. The 1200W unit follows the airflow of the other modules, while the 650W and 930W supplies come in separate intake and exhaust versions.
Four fan modules face either the port side as intake or the port side as exhaust. Every fan and supply in the chassis must face the same direction, or the switch can overheat and shut down.
The default software image carries the full Layer 2 security and management feature set. Layer 3 IP unicast and multicast, and Nexus Data Broker, run only with an additional license.
Application Scenarios
In a data center row, the switch sits at the top of a server rack and connects up to 48 hosts at 1G, 10G or 25G over its SFP+ ports, with direct-attach cables up to 3 m at 25G.
A fabric that aggregates racks at 40G or 100G reaches the spine through the QSFP ports, which give each switch up to four 100G or six 40G uplinks.
While server NICs move from 10G to 25G, one switch carries both speeds side by side because every SFP+ downlink port supports 1G, 10G and 25G.

N9K-C92160YC-X and N9K-C92300YC both have 48 SFP+ downlinks at 1G, 10G or 25G, but N9K-C92160YC-X has six QSFP ports with four 100G-capable at 3.2 Tbps and a 20 MB shared buffer, while N9K-C92300YC has 18 40/100G QSFP28 ports at 6.0 Tbps and 30 MB, so racks that need more than four 100G uplinks move to N9K-C92300YC. N9K-C92300YC also carries a 128 GB SSD against 64 GB here. Fabric or aggregation roles built on 36 QSFP28 ports at 7.2 Tbps, instead of 48 SFP+ access ports, call for N9K-C9236C. On this platform the default software image has no Layer 3 IP unicast or multicast, so routed designs add the N93-LAN1K9 licence.
Ordering Checklist
- Fan airflow: Order four fans, all NXA-FAN-30CFM-B (port-side intake) or all NXA-FAN-30CFM-F (port-side exhaust). Fans and power supplies facing different directions can overheat the switch and shut it down.
- Power supply type: Order two supplies of one type: NXA-PAC-650W-PI/PE, UCSC-PSU-930WDC, UCS-PSU-6332-DC, NXA-PDC-930W-PI/PE, or N9K-PUV-1200W. AC, DC, HVAC and HVDC supplies cannot be mixed.
- Supply airflow: Pick the PI or PE suffix matching the fans; N9K-PUV-1200W follows the airflow of the other modules. A supply with the wrong airflow direction breaks the cold-aisle and hot-aisle plan.
- Layer 3 licence: Add N93-LAN1K9 (Enhanced L3) when OSPF, EIGRP, BGP or IP multicast is needed. The default software has no Layer 3 IP unicast or multicast.
- Power cord: Add a country-specific cord PID such as CAB-9K10A-EU, CAB-9K10A-UK or CAB-9K12A-NA. Power cords are separate order lines from the supplies.
