N9K-C93108TC-FX Description
The N9K-C93108TC-FX is a Cisco Nexus 9300-FX Series top-of-rack switch for data center racks whose servers connect over 10GBASE-T copper. The switch has 48 RJ-45 downlinks at 100M, 1G or 10G, six 40/100G QSFP28 uplinks, 2.16 Tbps of bandwidth and a 40 MB system buffer in a 1RU chassis with port-side intake or exhaust airflow. MACsec runs only on ports at 10G and above, and Nexus 2000 fabric extenders attach to the switch in NX-OS mode.

Product Performance
Key Features
Every RJ-45 downlink is set to 100M, 1G or 10G, which lets servers from several hardware generations share one switch while a rack is refreshed. The hosts stay on copper patch cabling throughout, with no optics needed at the server end.
The six QSFP28 uplinks run at 40G or 100G, so a rack can join a 40G spine now and move to 100G later by changing optics rather than the switch. Combinations of 1G, 10G, 25G and 50G connectivity are also supported on the uplink side.
MACsec encryption runs on ports at 10G and above and is not supported on 1G ports. One 1G port also removes MACsec from every other port in its MAC block, and a MACsec port gives up priority flow control, which matters where lossless RoCE traffic shares the fabric.
The base software covers Layer 2 switching, security and management; Layer 3 unicast and multicast routing need an NX-OS license. The Essentials package brings BGP, OSPF, PIM and VXLAN BGP EVPN, and Advantage adds SR-MPLS, MPLS Layer 3 VPN and VXLAN EVPN Multi-Site border gateways.
AC rooms, -48V DC plants and high-voltage AC or DC distribution all take the same switch; only the supply pair changes. Power planning uses the 460W maximum draw, while typical operation draws 276W.
Each of the four fan modules has two rotors, and the switch keeps running normally after one rotor fails. A second rotor failure brings a warning and a shutdown two minutes later, and a fan pulled during operation has to be replaced within one minute.
Application Scenarios
In an NX-OS VXLAN EVPN fabric, the switch acts as the leaf for a rack of servers with 10GBASE-T adapters, and its QSFP28 ports connect up to the spine.
Data centers that run Cisco ACI can add the switch in ACI mode as the leaf for copper-attached hosts, managed through the fabric’s policy model.
A row that still runs Nexus 2000 fabric extenders such as N2K-C2348TQ or N2K-C2232PP can use the switch as their parent in NX-OS mode.

N9K-C93108TC-FX is the 10GBASE-T model that runs from NXOS-703I7.1, while N9K-C93108TC-FX3P adds PoE, PoE+ and 60W UPoE on all 48 ports plus 2.5G and 5G rates, so racks that power endpoints over copper move to that model. Fabrics that encrypt 1G links with MACsec also need N9K-C93108TC-FX3P, because MACsec on N9K-C93108TC-FX covers ports at 10G and above only. N9K-C93108TC-FX3 needs NXOS-10.4.2 and does not support Nexus 2000 FEX, so rows that keep extenders stay on N9K-C93108TC-FX. Fiber-connected servers move to N9K-C93180YC-FX, with 48 SFP ports and 3.6 Tbps. An installed Essentials license upgrades to Advantage with NXOS-UPG-ES-AD-XF=.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow direction: Use one direction on all four fans and both supplies: NXA-FAN-30CFM-B with NXA-PAC-500W-PI for port-side intake, or NXA-FAN-30CFM-F with NXA-PAC-500W-PE for port-side exhaust. N9K-PUV-1200W follows the installed fans. Mixed airflow can overheat and shut down the switch.
- Supply pair: Fit the same supply type and wattage in both slots, such as two NXA-PAC-500W-PE or two NXA-PDC-930W-PI units. AC and DC supplies cannot be mixed, and a replacement must match the wattage of the unit it replaces.
- Power cords: Order one cord per AC supply for the site, such as CAB-N5K6A-NA, CAB-9K10A-EU or CAB-C13-C14-2M, or NO-POWER-CORD outside Argentina, Brazil and Japan. N9K-PUV-1200W takes CAB-HVAC-SD-0.6M, CAB-HVAC-RT-0.6M, CAB-HVAC-C14-2M or CAB-HVDC-3T-2M, a cable list separate from the AC cords.
- Rack-mount kit: Add NXK-ACC-KIT-1RU or N3K-C3064-ACC-KIT. Each 1-RU kit comes with slider rails and a ground lug kit for the 22.5 in deep chassis.
- NX-OS license: Select an XF-class PID, such as NXOS-AD-XF for a perpetual Advantage license. GF-class PIDs are for 1G fixed platforms, and a perpetual DCN license cannot be moved to another switch later.
- Security add-on: Add ACI-SEC-XF when links will be encrypted with MACsec. MACsec does not run without a Security license, and ACI-SEC-XF replaces NXOS-SEC-XF, which is no longer orderable.
