The N9K-C9336C-FX2 is a Cisco Nexus 9300-FX2 Series 1RU fixed data center switch for 40/100G leaf and aggregation roles. The switch has 36 QSFP28 ports at 40/100 Gbps, 7.2 Tbps of switching bandwidth and a 40 MB system buffer. Fan trays and power supplies must share one airflow direction, port-side intake or port-side exhaust, or the chassis cools in the wrong direction.

Uniform QSFP28 Port Layout

All 36 data ports are QSFP28 at 40/100 Gbps, with no SFP28 or copper ports. Optics, DACs and AOCs are therefore planned for a single port type across the chassis.

Breakout And QSA Port Ranges

Breakout is supported on all ports. QSA adapters give 10G on ports 1-36 but 1G only on ports 7-32, so any 1G links belong on that range.

Ethernet Without Fibre Channel

FC and FCoE are not supported on this switch. Storage traffic has to run over Ethernet, because the chassis cannot terminate Fibre Channel.

NX-OS Or ACI Operation

The switch runs in standard NX-OS mode or in ACI mode, with minimum images of NXOS-703I7.3 and ACI-N9KDK9-13.1.2.

Airflow Set By Fans And Supplies

Three dual fan trays and both power supplies come in port-side intake or port-side exhaust versions. All of them must face the same direction as the rack aisle layout.

Redundant Power Input Choices

Two power supply slots hold one active and one redundant module, drawing 337W typical and 719W maximum on AC. Supplies come as 750W or 1100W AC, 1100W DC or 1100W HVAC/HVDC, and AC and DC are not mixed.

In a data center fabric, the switch aggregates leaf uplinks on its 36 QSFP28 ports, with 7.2 Tbps of switching bandwidth behind them in a single rack unit.

Compact 100G Leaf

A leaf in a high-speed server row connects hosts at 40G or 100G over DACs, AOCs or breakout cables, because breakout works on every port.

10G Links Through QSA Adapters

A 40/100G rack that still has a few 10G devices can attach them through QSA adapters in the QSFP28 ports instead of adding a second switch.
