IE-3500H-12P2MU2XE Description
The IE-3500H-12P2MU2XE is a Cisco IE3500 Heavy Duty Series industrial Ethernet switch for sealed field cabinets that power cameras and sensors and need 10G fiber uplinks. The switch has 12 Gigabit M12 X-coded ports, 2 mGig UPoE ports, 2 SFP+ uplinks and a 240W PoE budget on a 12 to 54 VDC input, and it mounts on a wall. The full 240W budget needs an input of 44 to 54 VDC, and the IP66/IP67 rating holds only when every IP67 cable is mated and torqued or the supplied dust caps are fitted.

Key Features
The two 100M/1G/2.5G M12 ports support PoE classes 1-8, so higher-power cameras and access points can run at multigigabit speed without a separate injector.
Twelve 10/100/1000 M12 X-coded ports support PoE classes 1-4 for standard PoE and PoE+ endpoints such as sensors and fixed cameras.
The 240W PoE budget is shared across all 14 powered ports and is available only when the DC input is between 44 and 54 VDC. Below that range the switch still runs from 12 VDC but does not deliver PoE.
The two cages take 1G or 10G SFP and SFP+ modules, including industrial-grade GLC-SX-MM-RGD= optics. An M25 adapter in the CW-SFP-KIT1 kit keeps the IP67 seal over the fiber connector.
IP66, IP67 and Type 4X protection apply only when all IP67 cables are mated and torqued correctly or the supplied dust caps cover unused connectors.
Power enters through a 4-pin Mini-Change connector rated for 6 A, and no power supply ships with the switch. Power consumption is 45W before the load of attached PoE devices.
Application Scenarios
In a roadside cabinet, the switch powers PoE cameras and traffic sensors over sealed M12 ports and returns their traffic to the control center over a 10G SFP+ fiber uplink.
Along a railway line, the switch connects signaling gear and high-bandwidth cameras through its 2.5G mGig UPoE ports, while the SFP+ uplinks carry the aggregated traffic to the next cabinet.
On a production line exposed to washdown or dust, the switch supplies PoE to access points and panels from its Gigabit ports and links back to the plant core over fiber.

IE-3500H-12P2MU2XE is the only IE-3500H model with 2 mGig UPoE ports and 2 SFP+ uplinks, while IE-3500H-14P2T-E has 14 gigabit PoE/PoE+ ports plus 2 gigabit M12 ports and no mGig or SFP+ ports, at the same 240 W budget. A site with higher-power multigigabit endpoints or 10G fiber uplinks needs IE-3500H-12P2MU2XE, and a copper-only gigabit PoE design fits IE-3500H-14P2T-E in a slightly smaller chassis. Hardware is identical on IE-3500H-12P2MU2XA, which ships with Network Advantage; order it when Advantage is needed from the start, or add IE3500-NW-A= to IE-3500H-12P2MU2XE later.

Ordering Checklist
- SFP+ uplink optics: Select SFP or SFP+ modules for the two 1G/10G ports, preferably industrial-grade such as GLC-SX-MM-RGD= for 1G, plus CW-SFP-KIT1 and an M25 adapter. The SFP cages need the IE-3500H-12P2MU2X installation kit and an M25 adapter to keep the IP67 rating.
- Power cable and PoE input: Order a Mini-Change A-size single-ended cable such as Molex 130006-0737, fed from a 44 to 54 VDC source if PoE is used. No power supply ships with the switch, and PoE runs only on a 44 to 54 VDC input rather than the 12 to 54 VDC base range.
- SD card and console cable: Add SD-IE-16GB for configuration backup and CAB-CONSOLE-M12= for the M12 console port, if the site needs them. The SD card is not shipped by default, and the console port needs an M12 to DB9F cable.
- Software tier: Network Essentials is the default; IE3500-NW-A= upgrades to Network Advantage, and IE3500-DNA-E or -A terms (3Y, 5Y, 7Y) cover Catalyst Center. The Catalyst Center licenses are optional and Network Advantage is a separate line item, so the order needs the intended tier.
