The N2K-C2348UPQ is a Cisco Nexus 2348UPQ 10GE Fabric Extender for server racks that connect over 1G and 10G SFP/SFP+ fiber or Twinax. The unit has 48 unified-capable 1/10G host ports, six 40G QSFP+ fabric ports at 480 Gbps full duplex, 1440 Gbps / 2160 Mpps of hardware forwarding, a 32 MB shared buffer and port-side exhaust or intake airflow. Fibre Channel on the host ports needs parent support, which is limited to Nexus 5600 from NX-OS 7.3(0)N1(1) and Nexus 9300 and 9500 from 9.2.1.

Key Features
All 48 SFP/SFP+ host ports are unified ports, carrying Ethernet at 1G or 10G, with 2/4/8/16G Fibre Channel on up to 24 of them where the parent allows.
Six QSFP+ fabric ports give 240 Gbps in each direction, 480 Gbps full duplex, which holds the oversubscription to 2:1 with 48 ports at 10G.
The fabric side takes QSFP-40G-SR4, LR4, CSR4, BiDi optics, active Twinax and AOC, and a 40G port can split into four 10G links.
Two power supplies in 1+1 redundancy come as 400W AC, DC, or 277VAC/HVDC types, each in standard or reversed airflow.
Three hot-swappable fans run N+1, so a single fan failure does not stop the unit, and the chassis operates from 0 to 55 degrees C.
Parents range from Nexus 5500, 5600 and 6000 on NX-OS 7.0(3)N1(1) to Nexus 7000 and 7700 on 7.2.0D1(1) and Nexus 9300 and 9500 on 7.0(3)I2(1).
Application Scenarios
A server row cabled with SFP+ optics or Twinax brings up to 48 hosts onto the network at 1G or 10G, with the six 40G fabric ports running back to the parent switch.
In a rack that mixes Ethernet hosts and Fibre Channel storage, up to 24 unified ports carry 2/4/8/16G Fibre Channel through FC SFPs when the parent platform supports it.
When the parent switch sits in a neighboring row, the fabric ports take QSFP-40G-SR4, QSFP-40G-SR-BD or FET-40G, which reaches 100 m on OM3, and 4x10G breakout cables suit 10G parent ports.

N2K-C2348UPQ and N2K-C2348TQ-E both have 48 host ports and six 40G QSFP+ fabric ports at 480 Gbps full duplex, but N2K-C2348UPQ takes unified-capable SFP/SFP+ ports while N2K-C2348TQ-E uses 100M/1/10GBASE-T RJ-45. Copper hosts go to the cost-optimized N2K-C2348TQ-E, with FCoE on Cat 6a or 7 cable up to 30m. N2K-C2348TQ-E lists only AC and DC power supplies, so sites on 277VAC or HVDC stay on N2K-C2348UPQ. Racks with 32 host ports and four 40G fabric ports at 320 Gbps can use N2K-C2332TQ. Native Fibre Channel on the N2K-C2348UPQ host ports depends on the parent switch: Nexus 5600 from NX-OS 7.3(0)N1(1) or Nexus 9300 and 9500 from 9.2.1.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow and fans: Order fan NXA-FAN-30CFM-F= for standard airflow (port-side exhaust) or NXA-FAN-30CFM-B= for reversed airflow (port-side intake). The fans and power supplies must face the same direction.
- Power supply type: Choose AC N2200-PAC-400W or -B, DC N2200-PDC-400W or N2200-PDC-350W-B, or 277VAC/HVDC NXA-PHV-500W or NXA-PHV-500W-B. The chassis has two power supplies chosen on the order, and the input type must match the rack feed.
- Host optics: Add SFP/SFP+ modules for the 48 host ports, such as SFP-H10GB-CU3M Twinax or GLC-T, as none are included. The 48 host ports ship empty, so every connected host needs its own module or cable.
- Fabric optics and bundles: Add QSFP+ for the six fabric ports, or bundle N2K-C2348UPQ4F, 8F or 12F (4, 8 or 12 FET-10G/FET-40G or QSFP-Bidi), or N2K-C2348UPQF-QSA (12 FET-10G and 6 QSA). The base PID has no QSFP+ optics, and FET only links to FET at the other end.
- Fibre Channel SFPs: Order DS-SFP-FC16G-SW or -LW, DS-SFP-FC8G-SW or -LW, DS-SFP-FC4G-SW or -LW for FC host ports. Fibre Channel needs FC-rated SFPs, not Ethernet SFP+ modules.
- Parent switch release: Run minimum NX-OS 7.0(3)N1(1) on Nexus 5500, 5600 and 6000; 7.2.0D1(1) on 7000 and 7700; 7.0(3)I2(1) on 9300 and 9500. A parent below this release does not support the FEX.
