C1300-8T-E-2G Description
The C1300-8T-E-2G is a Cisco Catalyst 1300 Series compact Layer 3 switch for a desk cluster, shop counter or classroom where PCs, printers and terminals plug in over copper. Eight Gigabit RJ-45 ports with no PoE output and two Gigabit copper/SFP combo uplinks share 20 Gbps of nonblocking switching capacity in a fanless chassis 185 mm deep. The switch runs from an external 100-240V supply, routes with RIP v2 rather than OSPF, and does not support hardware stacking.

Key Features
Every RJ-45 port runs at 10/100/1000 and none of them supplies PoE; phones, cameras or access points on this switch need their own power source. Energy Efficient Ethernet (802.3az) applies to all copper Gigabit ports, and 1000BASE-T runs over Cat 5e cabling or better.
Each of the two uplink positions pairs an RJ-45 port with an SFP slot, and only one side is active at a time. A fiber run back to the main cabinet takes a 1G SFP such as GLC-LH-SMD for 10 km on single-mode, while a short copper handoff uses the RJ-45 side.
The chassis has no fan, measures 268 x 185 x 43.94 mm and weighs 1.39 kg. With no fan noise, the unit can sit in a shop, a classroom or an open-plan office rather than a wiring closet.
Power comes from an external 100-240V supply. Worst-case consumption is 10.65W at 220V, heat output is 36.33 BTU/hr, and at idle the switch draws 4.58W at 110V.
IPv4 and IPv6 traffic routes at wire speed, with RIP v2 for dynamic routes, policy-based routing and a built-in DHCP server. The table holds 990 IPv4 routes across up to 128 IP interfaces. Traffic between staff, printer and guest VLANs can therefore route on the switch rather than the site router.
Cisco Business Dashboard runs its probe inside the switch, without separate probe hardware or a virtual machine at the site. Day-to-day setup can also use the Cisco Business mobile app, the web UI or the CLI.
Application Scenarios
In a small office, the switch links desktop PCs, a network printer and a local file server, and routes between the staff and printer VLANs without a trip to the internet router.
A school places the fanless unit inside the classroom to connect the teacher PC, a display and student workstations, with one combo port carrying a fiber link back to the building network.
Behind a shop counter, point-of-sale terminals, receipt printers and the back-office PC share the eight ports, while a Guest VLAN keeps any visitor connection apart from payment traffic.

C1300-8T-E-2G and C1300-8P-E-2G share eight Gigabit ports, two combo uplinks and 20 Gbps, and PoE separates them: C1300-8T-E-2G has no PoE output, while C1300-8P-E-2G feeds 30W PoE+ to all eight ports from a 67W budget for phones, cameras or an access point. A site that needs more than eight access ports moves to C1300-16T-2G, which doubles the data ports to 16, switches 36 Gbps and uses two dedicated 1G SFP uplinks in place of combo ports. C1200-8T-E-2G matches the ports and 20 Gbps but routes with up to 32 static routes only, which suits sites where the router handles inter-VLAN routing. None of the Catalyst 1300 models in the table stacks; a site that wants a single-IP stack moves to a C1300 Family 1 model such as C1300-16P-4X.
Ordering Checklist
- Combo uplink optics: Add a supported 1G SFP such as GLC-SX-MMD (550 m multimode), GLC-LH-SMD (10 km single-mode) or GLC-TE (100 m copper) for each combo port that will use its SFP slot. No optics ship in the box.
- Rack bracket: Add RCKMNT-CMPCT-1K= when the switch mounts in a 19-inch rack. Only 24-port and 48-port models ship with 19-inch brackets.
- Power cord option: Keep NO-POWER-CORD off the order unless power is sourced separately. The switch has no internal supply, and the box otherwise carries the power cord or, on select 8-port models, a power adapter.
