The C9200CX-12P-2X2G-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9200CX fanless compact switch on Network Essentials for powering phones and access points in rooms that have no wiring closet. A fixed 315W AC internal supply gives its 12 Gigabit PoE+ ports a shared 240W budget, and two 10G SFP+ plus two 1G copper uplinks connect upstream through 68 Gbps of switching capacity. Network Essentials covers Layer 2, static routes and OSPF routed access up to 1,000 routes with MACsec-128, while BGP, PTP, VRF segmentation and MACsec-256 require Network Advantage.

Key Features
Static routes, RIP, EIGRP Stub and OSPF up to 1,000 routes are all part of Network Essentials, together with PBR, PIM Stub multicast and VRRP for gateway redundancy. A small site can route at the access layer from the first day.
Devices can be held off the network until 802.1X authentication succeeds. Links to the core can then be encrypted with 128-bit MACsec, which the Essentials tier already includes.
Twelve 802.3af devices at 15.4W each draw 184.8W and leave headroom. Devices pulling the full 30W of PoE+ reach the 240W limit at the eighth port, and the fixed internal supply offers no way to raise it.
Perpetual PoE keeps powered devices running while the switch reloads. After a power loss, Fast PoE starts feeding them before the operating system has finished booting.
An SD card slot can hold the configuration and software image, and the switch can boot from it. The USB Type A port accepts Cisco flash drives up to 8 GB and supports automatic upgrade when internal flash holds no bootable image.
No fan runs inside the 9.6-inch-deep chassis. Brackets for DIN rail, wall, under-desk, magnetic and 19-inch rack mounting let it share space with the people it serves.
Application Scenarios
In a classroom or meeting room, the switch mounts under a desk or on the wall and powers the room’s phones and access point without adding fan noise.
A small store can fix the switch to a DIN rail or magnetic tray in the back office, power its access points and phones, and send traffic to the store router over a 1G copper or 10G SFP+ uplink.
Remote floors and outbuildings connect to the campus core over the 10G SFP+ uplink, with OSPF routed access keeping each user subnet local to the switch.

C9200CX-12P-2X2G-E powers its 12 ports with PoE+ from a 240W budget, whereas C9200CX-12T-2X2G-E has 12 data-only ports and runs itself from a Class 6 PD uplink or an optional 80W adapter, a fit only where no endpoint needs power. Network Essentials stops at OSPF routed access up to 1,000 routes and MACsec-128, so a site that needs BGP, IS-IS, VRF segmentation, PTP or MACsec-256 must move to Network Advantage. The path is C9200CX-12P-2X2G-A on a new order, or a C9200CX-LIC= upgrade term (C9200CX-12-E-A-3, -5 or -7) for an installed unit, which raises the network license and the Cisco DNA tier together. Where the room is fed by high-voltage DC, C9200CX-12P-2XGH-E keeps the same ports and 240W PoE on a 315W HVDC/AC supply rated for 120-418 VDC or 100-277 VAC.

Ordering Checklist
- Subscription tier: Add an Essentials subscription matching the -E suffix, such as C9200CX-DNAE-12-3Y, -5Y or -7Y for Cisco DNA or C9200CX-DNXE-12-3Y, -5Y or -7Y for Cisco Catalyst. Every new order needs a subscription at the same tier as the network license.
- Default term: The configurator adds a 3-year Cisco DNA subscription by default; change the term or switch to a Cisco Catalyst subscription before submitting. A Smart Account is mandatory on the order.
- Power cord: Select the CAB-TA power cord for the destination country, such as CAB-TA-UK= or CAB-TA-EU=. The 315W AC internal supply takes an IEC 320-C14 cord.
- Console cable: Add CAB-CON-USBRJ45 if the site uses an RJ-45 console connection. The console port is USB micro-B, and Cisco does not supply a micro-B console cable.
