The C9300X-12Y-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9300X Series stackable access switch for fiber-fed closets and aggregation points that terminate 25G links. The switch has twelve 25G/10G/1G SFP28 ports, a modular uplink slot and 1,000 Gbps of switching capacity under Network Advantage, with a default 715W PWR-C1-715WAC-P supply and no PoE. The uplink slot takes C9300X-NM modules but not the 4x100G C9300X-NM-4C.

Twelve SFP28 Fiber Ports

Each of the 12 downlink ports negotiates 25G, 10G or 1G, so one optic family covers servers and older fiber links. There are no copper Multigigabit ports on this chassis.

Modular Uplink Slot

The uplink bay takes C9300X-NM modules such as the 8x10G Multigigabit, 8x25G or 2x100G types, and the ordering configurator defaults to C9300X-NM-2C. The 4x100G C9300X-NM-4C is not supported on this 12-port chassis.

Data Only, Redundant Power

The switch has no PoE, so the 715W PWR-C1-715WAC-P supply carries only the switch itself. The second power slot adds redundancy rather than PoE budget.

StackWise-1T And StackPower+

Stacking with other Catalyst 9300X switches runs at the full 1 Tbps of StackWise-1T. Mixing in Catalyst 9300 members drops the stack to StackWise-480, and StackPower+ shares power across members.

Network Advantage Scope

Network Advantage adds VXLAN, LISP, Cisco TrustSec, MPLS, NETCONF and RESTCONF automation, and xFSU high availability on top of the Layer 2 and limited routed-access scope of Network Essentials.

100G Hardware IPsec

With a separate HSEC license key, the Catalyst 9300X hardware encrypts traffic with IPsec at up to 100G, so encrypted uplinks need no extra appliance.

Application Scenarios

Fiber-Fed Access Aggregation

Where access switches already reach the closet over fiber, the switch terminates their links on SFP28 ports at 25G, 10G or 1G and sends the combined traffic upstream through its uplink module.

Server Row Leaf

In a small data center row, the switch terminates 25G server links directly on SFP28 ports and connects to the spine or core through a C9300X-NM uplink module.

Fiber Closet Upgrade

A wiring closet moving off older fiber switches keeps its fiber cabling and gains 25G ports, and it can join other Catalyst 9300X switches in a StackWise-1T stack.

C9300X-12Y-A and C9300X-24Y-A both use SFP28 fiber downlinks, Network Advantage and a 715W PWR-C1-715WAC-P supply, but C9300X-12Y-A has 12 ports and 1,000 Gbps standalone switching against 24 ports and 2,000 Gbps. The 4x100G C9300X-NM-4C module does not fit C9300X-12Y-A, so a site that wants it needs C9300X-24Y-A or C9300X-48TX-A. Copper Multigigabit access from 100M to 10G points to C9300X-48TX-A, which has 48 ports, no PoE and the C9300-DNA/DNX-x-48 license family instead of the C9300-DNA-L-E/A group used here. Cisco lists no Advantage-to-Essentials downgrade PID, so order C9300X-12Y-E for Essentials.

Ordering Checklist

  • License PID family: Order an Advantage term of 3, 5 or 7 years from the 25G-fiber group (C9300-DNA-L-A series), not the 48-port copper C9300-DNA-A-48 family. A term from the wrong family does not match the C9300X 25G fiber hardware.
  • Uplink module: Keep the default C9300X-NM-2C, change to C9300X-NM-8M or C9300X-NM-8Y, or select C9300X-NM-NONE; C9300X-NM-4C is not supported. The 4x100G module is limited to the 24-port SFP28 and 48-port Multigigabit C9300X chassis.
  • Second power supply: Keep the default second PWR-C1-715WAC-P, change to PWR-C1-1100WAC-P, or select C9300-SPS-NONE to remove it. CCW selects a second supply by default, so an unchanged order adds one.
  • StackWise cable: Keep the default 3 m cable, or choose STACK-T1-50CM or STACK-T1-1M; C9300X-STACK-NONE removes it. The default C9300X cable is 3 m, longer than most single-rack runs need.
  • StackPower cable: Keep the default 150 cm cable, or select C9300-SPWR-NONE to remove it. The cable is only needed where C9300X StackPower+ is planned.

    C9300X-12Y-A needs an HSECK9 Smart Licensing authorization code, obtained in CSSM, before IPsec can be enabled. Without it IPsec cannot be turned on. It is a one-time install that persists across reloads and config erase, so keep the code on record with the other license files for the switch.

  • Which items come bundled with a 3, 5 or 7 year subscription on C9300X-12Y-A?

    A 3, 5 or 7 year Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA Advantage subscription bundles the Cisco ThousandEyes Network and Application Synthetics license (TE-EMBEDDED-T) and the Cisco Spaces Extend license (D-DNAS-EXT-S-T).
