C9300X-48TX-A Description
The C9300X-48TX-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9300X stackable access switch built as a data-only member of the C9300X-48TX hardware family, carrying Network Advantage on top of the same chassis used by the PoE-capable C9300X-48HX-A. Its 48 copper downlink ports run as Multigigabit interfaces across 100M, 1G, 2.5G, 5G, and 10G speeds, and the switch ships with an empty modular uplink bay that accepts a C9300X-NM network module for a 10G-to-25G-or-faster uplink upgrade without a chassis swap. A single 715W AC power supply (PWR-C1-715WAC-P) is the default, and because this hardware profile is data-only there is no PoE budget to plan around, so the power question at order time is redundancy rather than power sourcing. Network Advantage on this PID unlocks the platform's segmentation, automation, and high-availability feature set (VXLAN, LISP, NETCONF/RESTCONF, xFSU) beyond the Layer 2 and limited routed-access scope of Network Essentials, and the switch joins other C9300X members in a StackWise-1T stack running at full 1 Tbps bandwidth, with Cisco StackPower+ available for shared power redundancy across the stack.

Key Features
Forty-eight 10G/mGig copper ports let each downlink negotiate up to 10G on existing Cat 5e/6/6A cabling, so an access closet can move past fixed 1G edge ports without a cable plant rebuild.
The uplink bay ships empty and accepts a C9300X-NM module, so an uplink can move from 10G to 25G, 40G, or 100G later by swapping the module instead of the chassis.
This PID carries Network Advantage, adding VXLAN, LISP, Cisco TrustSec, MPLS, NETCONF/RESTCONF automation, and xFSU in-service upgrades on top of the Layer 2 and limited routed-access scope of Network Essentials.
Stacking with other C9300X members keeps the full 1 Tbps StackWise-1T bandwidth; mixing in non-X Catalyst 9300 members drops the stack to StackWise-480 speed.
The default configuration ships with one PWR-C1-715WAC-P in slot 1 and a blank in slot 2, leaving a clear upgrade path to a redundant second supply without a chassis change.
As a Catalyst 9300X SKU, this switch supports Cisco StackPower+, pooling power redundancy across up to 4 stack members rather than relying on a single unit’s own dual-supply headroom.
Application Scenarios
Deployed as an access-layer switch where endpoints need Multigigabit copper speeds but do not draw PoE, such as desktop workstations, edge compute nodes, or access points powered through a separate injector.
Used to replace fixed 1G access switches in wiring closets that need higher per-port speed and a field-upgradable uplink path to 25G or 100G as core bandwidth grows.
Added to an existing C9300X StackWise-1T stack to grow port count while keeping full 1 Tbps inter-member bandwidth, without introducing a non-X member that would force a stack-wide speed drop.

- The C9300X-48TX-A and C9300X-48HX-A share the same 48-port Multigigabit chassis, switching capacity, and StackWise-1T stacking, so the real decision between them is PoE: the C9300X-48TX-A carries no PoE budget on its 715W supply, while the C9300X-48HX-A ships with a 1100W supply and a 590W UPOE+ budget for powering access points and phones. A closet with no PoE endpoints has no reason to carry the C9300X-48HX-A’s larger default supply or its 1100W cost premium at order time. Against the C9300-48P-A, the comparison changes platform, not just PoE: the C9300-48P-A is a non-X Catalyst 9300 chassis capped at 256 Gbps switching capacity and StackWise-480 stacking, with no hardware IPsec path, versus the C9300X-48TX-A’s 1,760 Gbps capacity and StackWise-1T bandwidth. A design that only needs 1G PoE+ access ports and standard-tier stacking bandwidth has no technical reason to pay for the C9300X-48TX-A’s Multigigabit uplink headroom or its data-only capacity advantage. Choosing among the three comes down to PoE requirement first (C9300X-48TX-A only fits no-PoE deployments), then platform-level throughput and IPsec needs (C9300X-48TX-A and C9300X-48HX-A over C9300-48P-A when stack bandwidth or hardware IPsec matters), since Network Advantage licensing is identical across all three rows and does not separate them.
Selection Guide
1. No-PoE Access Role Confirmation
This PID carries no PoE budget on its default 715W supply; a closet that expects to power access points or phones off this switch should move to the C9300X-48HX-A, which ships with a 1100W supply and a 590W UPOE+ budget on the same chassis.
2. Downgrading To Network Essentials On This Chassis
This SKU ships with Network Advantage, unlocking VXLAN, LISP, MPLS, and automation entitlements; a pure Layer 2 access role that never needs those features can move to the C9300X-48TX-E variant of the same hardware to lower the software subscription cost, since the underlying chassis, ports, and power stay unchanged.
3. StackWise-1T Headroom Over The Non-X Platform
The 1,760 Gbps switching capacity and StackWise-1T bandwidth on this SKU exceed what the non-X C9300-48P-A platform offers (256 Gbps, StackWise-480); a design that only needs 1G PoE+ access ports and standard stacking bandwidth can move to the C9300-48P-A instead and skip the Multigigabit uplink premium.
4. C9300X-NM Module Family Lock-In
The uplink bay ships empty, and only C9300X-NM modules are compatible with this chassis; a design already holding legacy C9300-NM modules from non-X switches cannot reuse them here and must order the C9300X-specific module family.
Ordering Checklist
|
Check Item |
What to Confirm |
Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
|
Network license and subscription match |
Confirm the Network Advantage hardware license is paired with a Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA Advantage software subscription at the same tier. |
A mismatched Essentials subscription against Advantage hardware is only accepted at renewal, not on a new order. |
|
Uplink module selection |
Confirm the C9300X-NM module ordered (8M/8Y/2C/4C) matches the target uplink speed and port count needed. |
C9300X-NM modules are not cross-compatible with non-X Catalyst 9300 chassis, so an incompatible module cannot be reused from another switch. |
|
Smart Account assignment |
Confirm the target Smart Account and Virtual Account before placing the order. |
Catalyst 9300 Series SKUs are Smart Licensing SKUs, and a license tied to the wrong account can stall activation. |
|
Second power supply slot |
Confirm whether a second PWR-C1 supply is needed at order time for redundancy. |
The unit ships with a blank in power slot 2 by default, and adding redundancy later requires a separate supply order. |
Optional Add-ons
