The C9300X-48HX-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9300X Series stackable access switch, licensed for Network Advantage, for wiring closets that power access points, cameras and lighting over Cisco UPOE+. Each of its 48 RJ-45 ports runs at up to 10G Multigigabit and supplies up to 90W, the default 1100W supply leaves a 590W PoE budget, and 1,760 Gbps of switching capacity sits behind a modular uplink slot. The default budget runs six ports at a full 90W, and Cisco IOS XE Bengaluru 17.5.1 is the first release that supports the switch.

Supply Choice Sets The 90W Port Count

The default supply alone carries six ports at a full 90W. With the second 1100W supply that the configurator adds, the budget is 1690W, enough for 18 such ports or for 48 PoE+ devices at 30W each. Two 1900W supplies reach 3290W, which covers 36 ports at 90W or all 48 at 60W, and each of those supplies gives its full 1900W only on 230V input.

Cable Grade Sets The Port Speed

Cat5e runs a port at up to 5G. A 10G link needs Cat6 for runs up to 55 m or Cat6A for the full 100 m, and the Multigigabit ports work in full duplex only.

All Four C9300X Uplink Modules Fit

This chassis is one of three Catalyst 9300X models that accept C9300X-NM-4C, with four 100G/40G ports; that module needs Cisco IOS XE 17.6.1 or later. C9300X-NM-2C, C9300X-NM-8Y and C9300X-NM-8M also fit, while modules from non-X Catalyst 9300 switches do not.

Routing And Segmentation Under Network Advantage

Network Advantage lifts the 1,000-route OSPF limit of the Essentials tier and adds BGP, IS-IS and HSRP. VRF, VXLAN, LISP, Cisco TrustSec and MPLS handle segmentation, and MACsec-256 encrypts the links.

Hardware IPsec And Hosted Applications

The UADP 2.0sec ASIC runs IPsec at up to 100G with AES-256 once an HSEC key is installed. IPsec and app hosting both come with the Advantage subscription tier, and hosted containers get Intel QuickAssist, two 10G AppGig ports and an optional 120 GB or 240 GB USB 3.0 SSD.

C9300X-48HX-A and C9300X-48TX-A share 48 10G Multigigabit ports, a modular uplink and Network Advantage, but only C9300X-48HX-A supplies Cisco UPOE+, from a 590W default budget, while C9300X-48TX-A is data only and fits closets with no powered endpoints. C9300X-48HX-E is the same switch on Network Essentials, and a closet that stays within Layer 2 and OSPF up to 1,000 routes, with no BGP, VXLAN or MPLS, can drop to it. Moving back up later takes a C9300-LIC= term such as C9300-48-E-A-5, which cannot sit on the switch order. C9300X-48HXN-A starts at 690W of PoE but runs 40 ports at 5G, switches 960 Gbps and does not take C9300X-NM-4C. Every stack member runs the same license level.

Subscription tier: Keep an Advantage term of 3, 5 or 7 years, such as C9300-DNA-A-48-5Y for Cisco DNA or C9300-DNX-A-48-5Y for Cisco Catalyst. New orders need a subscription at the same tier as the Network Advantage license.
HSEC key: Add the HSEC key when IPsec tunnels will end on the switch. Hardware IPsec stays unavailable without it, even on Network Advantage.
Uplink module: The configurator adds C9300X-NM-2C; keep it, change it to C9300X-NM-4C, C9300X-NM-8M or C9300X-NM-8Y, or select C9300X-NM-NONE. An empty slot needs a blank, and C9300X-NM-4C needs Cisco IOS XE 17.6.1 or later.
Second power supply: A second PWR-C1-1100WAC-P is selected by default and C9300-SPS-NONE removes it. Without it the PoE budget stays at 590W instead of 1690W.
Stack cables: A 3 m StackWise cable and a 150 cm StackPower cable come with each switch unless C9300X-STACK-NONE and C9300-SPWR-NONE are selected. Unstacked switches otherwise arrive with cables they do not use.

Yes. HSECK9 is a one-time install that persists across reloads and config erase. It is a Smart Licensing authorization code (SLAC) obtained in CSSM, and it is available for the Catalyst 9300X, 9500X and 9600X. Without it IPsec cannot be turned on, even though C9300X-48HX-A already runs Network Advantage.
